Hello everyone, I am a moderately technical chap in the sense that I understand the difference between JIS and Philips screws, and I remember Ohm's Law. I love fixing or at least attempting to fix broken stuff that others consider junk, especially old, i.e. vintage things like toasters but also motorcycles and cars.

I'm a bit nutty about microscopes and microscopy as well and have a pretty big collection.

Trained as a physicist, lectured a bit at Uni, got bored and joined Schlumberger in worldwide oil and gas exploration, got tired of the hard work and trained as a commercial pilot, and now am fully retired. Ride an Aprilia Shiver 750, drive a 1978 Volvo 245, and even cycle a bit on my Specialized.

I think this forum looks like a lot of fun which is why I'm here. I'll try to give as good as I get.

                  Peter

Hello friends, I live in Ukraine, I understand little about electronics, but I have a lot of enthusiasm. I bought a Dell 2350 - it won’t turn on, I was looking for a diagram - I found it here, thanks! I am a philosopher by education. I saw a photo of a diploma in electronics from "Vancouver College?" - on the first page of this topic. Philosophy and electronics are diametrically different subjects, but there is one factor that generalizes them - LOGIC.

First computer was a Timex Sinclair 1000. Then graduated to C-64 when could afford it. Local kmart stores had a layaway plan. Would go in every 2 weeks and make the required down payment. On the last payment, was awarded a new Commodore 64. (Still have three C64's and Cd drives stashed, Ha!)
Modem was a great enhancement then. Was dial up via landline and if able to achieve 300 Baud rate if lucky. Main site was the local university for any info or library.

Unfortunately one day the phone system was struck by lightening. Forced me to order a Gateway 2000. At that time, most purchased Gateway's unless you sold one of your children.(kidding) Then could afford a Mac.

Was a PM in Pharma industry for >30yrs and have have retired. So decided to revisit service/repair. "Always Be Learning" is my motto to keep the mind fresh. So can enjoy working without the stress of a workplace. Have returned to BadCaps as found to be a great resource.

                                    LET'S GO.

Hi guys, thank you all for this wonderful and helpful forum. I joined this forum duing my search for BIOS bin file for repairing my ThinkPad T470s laptop. This laptop ran into a bricked BIOS (I think so) after the latest BIOS update from Lenovo performed the day before yesterday. This is my first time trying to do such thing. Wish me luck

Hi - Sometimes I wonder whether I enjoy trying to repair used, good quality lab equipment rather than using them for their intended purpose! Its a budget-conscious way of getting some Tektronix, Keithley, HP etc products on the bench.

This forum is a great source of wisdom and am happy to subscribe..always great to learn more from others' expertise.
