    Acer AT3201W Issues

Well hello to everyone who reads this thread.

I just picked this TV up at no cost and I wanted to give it a go at fixing it. The TV will power up and turn on, the ACER screen appears and it goes though an A/V check and stops on Channel 3 and then it will freeze BUT I have sound form the source input, the 3 stays on the screen and the back light works fine but the TV will freeze and will require a hard power off with back switch. I have not opened this unit up yet, but I will and I just wanted to know what should I target first? I have been reading about the inverter board, but from what I gather it is a black screen that is the issue there.

    Thanks

Oh an update to this, I have been able to bypass the freezing by pressing the INPUT button as it is doing its pre-check and it work fine after that. Any ideas?

The first thing to look at is the power supply, then the main board. Unfortunately the symptoms sound like something is overheating, but you might be lucky and find a bunch of bad caps.

Ok, I will look into it. I have been able to hook it up to my PC and it is working 100% so far, as for the overheating issue I don't think that is it b/c it had been off for a few hours when I turned it on again, it was randomly doing this over that last several months from what I was told. This is a crazy issue. I will keep updating on the issues.

Is is trying to scan for active analog TV signals? That could produce a 'hang' similar to what you describe, no?

Well that is possible, the person using the TV before had their Sat TV hooked up via Coaxial cable (don't ask me why) and when ever it went to channel 3 which was the default for their sat TV and it would freeze. When I took it home and powered it up with no input it would freeze after its search and it would be channel 3. I have the VGA plugged in to the PC and I watched a movie in 720p and it looked nice. I only had to drop contract and brightness, and move H-Pos to center and I am so far working 100%. I am going to move to S-Video b/c I already have 2 monitors running on my system and my GTX 280 video card has S-Video as well.
