Yamaha organ display faulty-see stripes

Hi guys,
I have a Yamaha organ with a faulty display.
When I turn it on half of the display is working for about 2 seconds and then I can see only stripes all over the display.

my question is what component can usually go bad? e.g. a diode, a capacitor, a transistor etc.?

Usually either a diode or capacitor. More or less a capacitor because it's like this upon power up and gets worse. First look for bad solder connections. Also the flat ribbon to LCD could be a problem.

What are the most suitable testing methods to pinpoint the bad component besides multimeter?

Need schematics on the driver circuits, but you could try pressing on connections to LCD to start. Wiggle cables here and there and unplug and reconnect cables and make sure contacts are clean.

When I wiggle the cables I do see a change on the screen. The cable is soldered to the circuit board. How do I fix it?

Could you post a picture of the cable on the circuit board in question you are talking about?
