VIVO LTV32FHD washed out image - too bright?

Cheap and nasty clone TV pulled out of a dumpster. There is a stable image however it is washed out by what appears to be excessive back-lighting. I'm thinking to myself, if the panel is turning on those LCD pixels OK, and the contrast and brightness controls are operational and set to normal, then surely the only other thing must be excessive backlighting? It's a CFL panel, and I don't know if those tubes can be made to run with excessive brightness in some sort of fault condition.

    Any thoughts out there?

    Check this thread. https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=60176
If that doesn't help you will need to post pictures and voltages.
I assume no responsibility for any stupid suggestions I might post.

Thanks for the confirmation guys that it is the T-Con. I'll pull it out and see what I have in my box of spares. I do tend to salvage T-Con boards wherever possible. Otherwise it's a cheap and nasty clone and not worthwhile spending anymore time on.

Cheap yes but nasty I don't think so. Have had 3 Vivos 2 plasma and an LCD. Got trouble free years of use from plasma sold one and fixed the other cheaply when turn on troubles started after 6 years gave it to a friend when his LG plasma gave up the ghost and it's still going well as is the LCD after 5 years. I recall 3 friends who bought Samsung about 5 years ago and all failed within first 18 months - they advertise a lot and sell a lot and fail a lot! LG show up often as well.Horses for courses I guess.

Swapped over T-Con with a board purchased from the UK however I suspect it too is faulty. Same symptoms only worse. It also gave a sort of rolling artifact through the picture with slight strobing. Swapping back to the original T-Con just went back to the extreme lack of contrast problem. Will try to get money back or another T-Con.

Well, in no time the E-bay seller simply refunded me without any discussion or argument. I suspect he knows he is selling untested boards. So I'm back on the hunt for a replacement T-Con for this TV. However I must say, the front panel has a scratch on it, and on reflection I think I'll break it down for parts. Not much demand for these 32 inch sets. At least I know what the problem was and this post might help someone in the future.

As an ex-Ebay seller, that is not necessarily true. When you purchase through Ebay here in the UK, there is a minimum of 14 days from receipt by the buyer to report the item as missing, faulty or not as described.

It is not worth the sellers time to argue with the buyer, Ebay or Paypal and so I would always accept a return no matter what the reason given because it was less work and aggravation. It also meant that if it was a genuine mistake on the purchasers part then they would be happy to purchase from me again.

I can honestly say although perhaps some may do so, to sell untested items is really not worth the sellers time and effort to do so.
Willing to help but I'm no expert.

Yes Dick, I might be not giving the seller due credit for doing the right thing. Someone started a post elsewhere in this TV Repair Forum asking whether selling TV parts was more profitable than repairing then trying to sell. It reinforces some of the points you make.
