    Samsung PS42C430AR was tripping photos

Hi Guys, attempting plasma repair. Set came in tripping and traced fault to shorted Vs rail. (see photo 1)

    The Y main had two IGBT's RJP30E2 Q5003 & Q5007 Short circuit. (see photo 2.)

On closer inspection I noticed the face of U5000 blown off. Knowledge a bit lacking but googled to find out its a digital isolator (photos 004/5/6/7).
Did the failing U5000 cause the the IGBT's to blow or vice versa.

With the damage to the U5000 being so violent, i guessed the Y buffer must also be damaged. I have replaced both the Y Buffer & Y main with boards of unknown status. (salvaged pcbs). Now the set comes on, but has red lines on screen. (photo 8).

ADD ON EDIT. I down loaded the "service manual" from electrotanya but could not see where to measure the Vsc voltage. The Vs, Va, Ve voltages where all okay once the set was running, However I could only measure -66volts as the lowest voltage present on the Y buffer.

My two questions: could the violent discharge have been caused by the panel, & is it worth pressing ahead??

There's usually a rivet down by the trans on the Y that is marked VSC.

You Could have an X board issue, but need to confirm the VSC first...

Thanks Alastair, will do, the panel doesn't look that old by the date, I'm going to leave the cost of replacing maybe all three boards versus getting a new set to the customer, and have to get on with the next one.
