    Toshiba 42TL515U The undead TV

So this TV has me scratching my head, normally I pick up broken TV's. The man told me that it would randomly shut off and took forever to startup and the last time it happened it wouldnt turn on so he stored it in the garage. So I accepted the challenge and happily took it off his hands and brought it home. Once home I plugged it in and guess what it turned on, image the shock I had because this never happens. I did a factory reset and updated to the current firmware and so far this TV turns on every time. I have been trying to recreate the issues the man claimed and these are the results.

-if left on with no video input the tv will turn itself off around the 15 min mark

-if it has been left off for awhile ( couple hours ) it takes about 25 seconds to turn on and after that if you turn it off than on it takes 6 seconds to turn on if nothing is connected to an input and about 12 seconds to boot if something is plugged into the input ( chromecast ).

-I have left movies playing on it and not once has it turned off

When he told me these symptoms I figured I may find a swollen cap or two but they all look flawless. I have read that this model has alot of complaints about being slow to boot I just want to make sure this is the case here and theres nothing hidden that I am not seeing. I have noticed that the touch sensitive buttons do work but dont light up at all. So I guess what I am really asking is did I just pick up a TV that works fine and has no issues?!?!?

Re: Toshiba 42TL515U The undead TV

i have this tv and loved it . several problems vcam up after 3 years of flawless operation it started to not want to turn on . unplugging for 20 secs and then powering up worked . then it didnt after 6 months .. further research some one said check the little fan on the output input board to see if its stopped from dust . sure enought it was stopped full of dust . i stuck a vacume on the air vents and sucked the dust or most of it and the fan worked and the tv cam on another year .. later the wifi stopped working .. a new wifi modle fixed that . another 6 months and the tv will not turn on again . this time i am at a loss . no lights no fan no sounds nothing, . sooooo . i payed 1300 dollars for this cool 3d tv and decided to sink a little money replacing parts . i found the mother board and video board for 39 bucks off ebay from a cracked tv and replaced them it still wont turn on so the only thing left is the tcon board and power board. i should have replaced it first as this is usually the problem with a tv that wont turn on from bad caps on the power board.. i am now plucking thru caps and diodes and rectifiers and hope to be ordering somethis before i decide to sink 80 dollars for a power board..

it is plain stupid to have touch buttons on the front of a tv you cant see because there is no light in them/// i might see if i can put an led in it and see those buttons without a flashlight to find them IF i get it running again.
