    Help w/ infamous Toshiba 50HP66?

I just acquired the apparently notorious Toshiba 50HP66 and I think it appears to have the YSUS problem I've read about.

I was told it had no picture just flickering but sound worked.
I turned it on (don't have any input hooked up) and sure enough it flickers, has a full screen of snow but I did notice that there is picture since I see video input when it starts and volume when I hit the button, though this is in between the flickers and doesn't seem to be in the right place going by the manual I got online..

I tried disconnecting the power to the ZSUS and it doesn't seem to show anything (no flickering). I was going to disconnect the YSUS from the buffers but I only find a small multi-cable on the upper left of it. When I disconnect that it still flickers but there is also a white vertical multiple bands on the right half about 2/3 from the left of the screen. I don't know if that's how you disconnect it from the buffers since I can't find detailed info.

A few of the power caps on the upper left side of the PS board are slightly bulging and I think one is leaking (Dk Blue stain on top) I also noticed there's a spade lug sticking straight out of the PS board about half way down that has 30V printed in a black box right next to it. I assume it some sort of test point but it reads 5+V. The +5V power cable feeding the YSUS reads 5.2 so I think that's right.

Does anyone have a more detailed way for me to troubleshoot this thing?
Unfortunately all I have to test with is a multimeter anymore. (Coming out of 3rd time I've lost everything I owned. Don't ask)
I've messed around with electronics my whole life and fixed my Vizio 42" and Samsung 32" following clues on here.
Any help on what to check and where to look would be greatly appreciated.

Intermittent IPM, prob one of the ERC ones.

Could be either one on the SUS boards....

Any detailed info how to test them? I don't have the money to just throw parts at it.

Do you feel it's going to be worth it? If the IPMs are bad then general practice is to replace all 4 modules. I've also read you can't mix module revisions on the one board.

Then you could also have shorted FETs on the upper and lower buffer boards.

and you suspect the caps on the powerboard are bad.

You could try searching the forum for historic info using board numbers or TV models.

Yes it is worth it to me. As long as I can physically manipulate the parts that need fixing (ie not micro sized surface mount) I will replace a bad part IN the modules if I have to.

So I guess nobody can tell me a way to troubleshoot this to where I can say this part is definitely bad as opposed to this part is probably bad?

Alastair already told you what has failed. Put your hand on the large heatsinks - under normal conditions they will be very warm to the touch after a few minutes of operation.

As to repairing them vs replacing them I can't help you there.
