Many have had gas wall heaters for many years that are not vented and they are still alive, I wouldn't use one in a very small airtight space of course.

I lived just beyond the natural gas line and had to use an electric stove for 10 years, everything cooked in the oven just dried out and was awful, stuff cooked on top wasn't too great either. Moved and had gas stove, difference is like night and day, food baked in a gas oven comes out as it should. Probably why you don't see electric ovens in restaurants.
