Thank you to the contributors of this thread. Just fixed my Sharp 70 inch using technique described above. I have minimal know-how with electronics and was able to do it, wife now thinks I'm "handy" lol

I have the rolling line issue as well. Also have a blank line from right to center. Now the screen has frozen. Will this work for me? Also, how do I know which side to remove? It seems like if I remove them they can not be reinstalled.

Just wanted to say thank you to everyone in this thread that helped!!! Friend replaced his tv under warranty (costco) and I got the broken one, fixed it within an hour!!!!!! WOOT!

I would say that you have some issue with the lower tab that was peeled but not clean... further have you disconnected the edged boards on that side by removing the corner cable. Of course, this is assuming the "poor focus" is the camera and not the actual set... :-)

Further which side did you pull? based on the photo, it appears the right side (from the front view) has an issue.... check the lower right tab driver to ensure that the removal is clean.

I wish I had the same luck here everyone else had. TV is now junk. I posted it free on Craigslist Hartford CT for parts. He are pictures of my TV now after peeling the ribbon off.

glad it worked out. yes there are lots of screws, some holding panels and frames, some holding bezel and frame and some holding bezel members.

Change the name of the site to BADASS. This site saved me big time. If you have a Sharp 70" LC and are experiencing this issue read this thread. Attached are a couple of pictures. I had a 40" x 40" table that I put the TV on face up and crawled around underneath the take the screws for the bezel out. I went all the way around taking out about 50 screws but as I found out when taking the side away that was unnecessary. I could have done just the side I needed and a few on top / bottom to get that side piece off. The other picture is of the offending driver IC which had melted into the plastic. The TAB bonds peeled off like tape. Re-assemble and I am back watching TV.

Not sure how people work with the tv on carpet.

Basically, I worked on the 70" on a "table top", facing up. :-) This allowed me to unscrew all the bezel screws and lift it off..

I used "wooden standoffs" (2X4 "blocks") strategically place on the "backside" of the set to raise it off the "table surface".... placed on the various empty metal backing plate and frame cross members. The "table" surface was less than the area of the tv. The "wood standoffs" were screwed / attached to fence boards which ran across the table to give "overall supporting footprint" for the table.... basically a support "skeleton" Let's say the table was 3'X5'. The boards and standoffs could be readily position to support most of the set and still allow you to unscrew the bezel from the backside and lift it off. Of course you first have to removed the back cover along with some of the other stuff (speakers). It allows you to leave the boards connected if you chooose your wood pieces wisely... :-) Because the set's bezel and frame are still mostly intact, the set does not flex too much but you still have to lay onto the table / "skeleton" with help and care... gently tipping onto its back.

I am sure there are others ways but for me that was the easiest way as I had the wood pieces around.

I think you might be able to re-attach the stand (if your unit has one), after the back has been removed. The you might be able to stand the tv up on its stand and work from there with a vertical panel... only conjecture on my part.

If I lay the TV face up on the carpet how can I get the bezel off?

Can the bezel screws come off while tilted up then gently lay down the screen on the carpet? Then undo the clips?

it would appear that indeed the right side (looking from the front of the set) is an issue. As I always suggest, you can do yourself a favor (and piece of mind) by feeding a known test pattern into your set (color smpte bars, equivalent... which can be found in a number of dvds for helping with tv setup)... this will show a picture that is then known to the forum which may highlight other things as opposed to a "running video unknown" video which might be hard to pick out issues from. Anyways, make sure your set is well supported when you remove the frame to get at the tab driver cables as any flexing in the panel will likely bring you to "disaster" in terms potential panel cracks.
If you are successful, like most others, you will be enjoying a beautiful picture again.

The only reason I am thinking about doing this is because of your efforts. Thanks for asking so many great and detailed questions and thanks to the BADCAPS community for being so helpful.

Here are 3 photos of my situation
One with everything connected, one with the left side TAB driver board disconnected at the bottom white ribbon cable and one with the right side TAB driver board disconnected (left is re connected) at the bottom white ribbon cable. Since this is non-recoverable I just want to be sure I do the correct side. I am thinking it is obvious that the right side needs to come off - agree?

Not finding any useful videos to help me remove the offending TAB. I see some posts here which say "tear it off". Is that really the only way?

I have the EXACT same TV (LC-70LE757U) as grizgza started this conversation with and the EXACT same issue. I have read this thread several times and am only confused as to how to get access to remove the ribbon cables from the panel. Do I need to take off the outside bezel to get access or just loosen the driver board and pull the flex cable loose?

The "original saved set" is still going fine since Oct. The owner gets tears in his eyes every time I ask if it is still working.... he can't believe I / we save him $2500 for a replacement set... :-)

Hi guys,

For those of you that has peeled off the left side ribbons that go directly on the panel to fix the common issue on this set is the repair still holding up? just wondering how long a repair like this lasts. Please advise.
