Samsung HP-S5053 Problem

Samsung HP-S5053 was working great...Picture went out but sound was ok.
Sent Y-Main board to a place that repairs and included the buffers for them to test. Y-Main was bad but the buffers were both ok. They sent me back a repaired Y-Main (not the one I sent - I marked them) and my buffers. Installed them and the picture returned but now has the green and red sparkle problem. I asked the repair place what was causing this and they told me this: "Thats common after repairing the Y-Main, not to worry, that the symptom would go away after watching it over a period of days". I have my doubts and was wondering if I should do the voltage tests and adjustments or tell them I want to try another board preferably the one I sent them after its repaired. Anyone have any thoughts?

It is wrong. However it may be possible to fix it. You will need to position the TV against a mirror, then adjust some points and voltages on the Y-main board. Can you supply a picture of your Y-main board so we can see what adjustments are available?

I don't need help locating the pots or the test points. I can find those easily. From the other threads I see that first I should test the Vs, Va, Vset and Vscan on the Power Board and adjust to the specs on the sticker. and then the Yrr and the Yfr on the Y-Main board. Correct? Before I make any adjustments I will measure all the above and report back.

I am 62 and graduated high school in 1971. I was fortunate enough to attend Junior High and High School while they still had Electronics and Shop classes. The basic skills I learned in those classes I use to this day...How to solder, read a meter, ohms law, component handling and identification, basic electrical concepts such as inductance and coils and many others. I hear that most shop classes have been eliminated due to budgeting and I think thats a crime. We are creating and perpetuating a throw away society where everything is discarded instead of repairing it. Marriage too unfortunately. We are lucky here in the San Diego area to have Taylor Guitars as our neighbor. Bob Taylor funds and helped create programs in high schools that teach how to build a guitar. Many skills are learned in doing so and the kids get to keep the guitar they made. I say bravo to Bob Taylor! Enough of my rambling I'll go fix some tvs now.

OK here's what I got...
The label says: Va=65 Vsc=-190 Vset=190 Vs=203 Ve=115
Here's what I had: Va=65.5 Vsc=-195.2 Vset=195.2 Vs=204.4 Ve=117.8

I set all to exact label specs with no change to picture or sparkles.

There are 2 pots on the Y-Main board: one marked Yrr and the other
I cant find any markings near it. I'm guessing thats Yfr...

Have mirror set up awaiting further instructions....

I messaged the guy that I got the board from and asked if he preferred me adjusting the Yrr and the Yfr on the Y-Main or return it to him and this was his reply cut and pasted:

More than 10 years that I repair the y man board, some TVs take a few months.
Be patient. Put another is the same.

Bull-Crap! First, this board is from a 2007 TV... and the earliest out-of-warranty failures would in 2008. That's 6 years, not 10. Older plasma panels are quite variable and required a lot of initial adjustments, so there is no way to say that because the board works in one panel it does not work in the other. Plasma panels also age - as they drift the control board is continuously adjusting how they are driven to maximise performance and lifespan.

I usually mark Yfr & Yrr on their original adjustments. For "positive sparklies", I'll adjust Yrr first, but I will also try Yfr. It's a game of trying to find the best position for both.

Positive sparklies are pixels lighting where they should not. Negative sparklies are pixels not lighting where they should.

I played around with the Yrr first and found when I turned it one way there were lots of positive sparkles and as I turned it back the other way they almost were gone. There were still some when the background was dark but a great improvement from the way it was. Then I monkeyed around with the Yfr and the same, one direction more sparkles the other less. I'm going to watch it some and then do some fine tuning if necessary. Unless I caused some unforeseen side effect I think this one is pretty much cured and is going to live.
