Vizio e550i-B2 - one active zone too dim?

In August, I bought a 55" Vizio e550i-B2 LED to replace a Samsung LCD that failed.. It worked great until yesterday, when I noticed that in the bottom left corner, there is a rectangle that is darker than the rest of the screen.

I will post a picture of the screen itself when I get home today..

This model has the "Active LED Zones" feature.. I did not have this feature turned on, and turning it on or off causes no change to the dark area. Changing sources does not change it either. Running through the color test patterns, the dim rectangle is still there.

In the attached image, you can see the setup of the active zones. The area affected is the bottom left zone. It is dim, but not black.

Is this a common problem with these?

    Isn't it still under warranty?

Yes it's only a few months old.

Was just wondering if this is common in these "active zone" LEDs

I think I've heard of it once before. It's probably one of those failures most people would never notice so it's rarely documented. It's far more common to have a complete LED array failure on an edge lit set, where the LEDs are tied in series, and the failure of one LED leads to the failure of the whole backlight unit.

According to Vizio, this unit is supposed to have full-array backlighting.. that's why it seems so strange that one corner in a perfectly defined "zone" would have issues

As that patch of dark is probably faulty LED's and as its only mere months old, Get 'em to replace the set or fix it.

They'll probably have to replace the whole panel assembly, because as far as I'm aware, the internal LED etc are not available separately.....

It could also be a condition known as 'Mura' which gives a similar effect--The cure is the same however....

Yes what I was saying is that because your set uses independent LEDs in a full-array setup you're less likely to notice a single failure compared to edge-lit sets where failure of one LED makes for a dead TV.

Oh ok, my apologies I misunderstood..

I guess I was hoping it was some kind of software/firmware problem telling the set to try to dim that zone incorrectly

I have had this model in my shop a few times check your connections between the driver board and the main power board , this model has a high rate of failure at this point and will cause what you are describing. go to my you tube and see the fix

If under warranty don't touch it! Someone else's problem to fix your issue. I'm sure Pictureperfect is probably correct in the diagnosis but if you open it you lose the warranty.
