Safe to ship plasma panel?

I've shipped countless LCD panel assemblies without issue, but never a plasma. I see the USPS insurance carriers don't cover plasma panels, but I'm not worried about that because I know I can pack them properly. I'm just wondering if it's OK to lay them flat. Is there truth to that, or is it just a myth that they'll be damaged if laid flat?

I've had no issues laying them flat on hard flat surfaces with say a sheet or towel so the trim does not get scratched.

So long as the chassis does not twist , flex or maybe a sudden shock it should be fine.

Tom has had the displeasure of leaning on the back of one and cracked it.

One thing I like about the majority odf the pansonics is the stand slides into the chassis so the rear cover can be removed without fear with the stand still in place and screws then put back.

but you'd know all this I expect.

I have transported all my TVs flat in a wagon on old flat sofa cushions ( soft) about 6-8 inches thick panel side up. never a drama and i drive accordingly . So long as no shock goes through the TV over bumps.

You would not let a freight company transport flat. There are specific generic boxes to transport plasmas vertically.

I had to relocate 4000k and my 50V20A and 42PX14 made it (miracle) would have been either road transported and rail in a shipping container full of house contents.

i think the boxes are very expensive

Of course, I'm only talking about the panel. Not the entire TV.
