Hello all I recently bought a Samsung 50 inch plasma from a friend because he described a y main board issue but now I look and see burn in a can't fix and sometimes the sides of my screen when I open my on screen keyboard the sides get dimmer suggesting to me that the plasma panel is dying. I also hear a cap buzzing as well as rbg snow and the TV clicks when it turns on. I Dont care if the plasma panel lives its all good but should I fix the other problems? Hopefully someone can help thank you for reading

Sorry, that's a bad plasma panel there, it isn't going to be fixable. The dead pixels would be fixable, but the vertical lines aren't. It's pretty common on C-series Samsung plasmas.

Where you see the screen dim on bright scenes is normal for the technology. It is called Automatic Brightness Limiting. CRT TVs and monitors had it too. Any emissive technology (like plasma) will...

Clicking when turning on is normal, as is a slight buzz in operation (should not be audible from ordinary distance.)

It's not burn in... it's just a crap panel... Samsung are well known for their panel issues... mostly on their LED-LCD TVs but also on plasma.

This is very upsetting but its what I get for buying first. Do you have any suggestions as to what I should look for next? I know another Samsung plasma would be cheap but I have a sharp LCD only 20 inch's that has lasted longer than this TV so should I just go for a bigger LCD? I really like the attention to detail and the black a plasma gives off and the only other cost effective set for me may be a projector...

For repair?

Panasonic PZ80 series plasma, or fix a Panasonic 50" UT50 with 8 blinks ($10 fix)

Or LG 50PS30 plasma. All FHD 1080p.

Panasonic TH-50PX80/TC-50X1 LG 50PQ3000 are ok sets. Only 720p. Panels usually ok, some reliability issues.

I love my 9G kuro, bought it faulty, but don't usually see them popping up.

Panasonic or lg sound great and being fhd vs 720p sounds even better. Thank you tom66 I will look into a repairing a pan last resort will be lg

Well, you'll want to avoid LED-LCD TVs then. Most plasmas are ok but some of the newer LGs have reliability issues due to a design flaw.

So my only logical option is to get a panny that obviously is going to be slightly aged? And really no LCDs? I have a sharp 21 that has lasted since 2009 so I figured sharp may be fine or even lcd for that matter. Oh boy I got some serious TV shopping to do

Small LCDs are OK. Anything 40" and above is hit-and-miss with reliability. If you have to buy an LED-LCD: Panasonic or LG only.

OK so older lg for plasma and Panasonic but newer LCDs I should try to stay away from 40+ unless I can compair realibity and only buy panny or lg. Well I hope that I won't run into any problems. Wish Samsung's didn't suck its really my only price range 550-600 for 50inch

Vizio is also OK, use LG panels, only in the higher end though.
If you buy from Costco, the 5 year Squaretrade warranty is like $60USD, which sort of allows you to get a bad TV and have warranty cover it...
I like to keep things out of waste though, hence why I hate seeing so many panels dying. No way to fix them!

I found a vizio e series e500l-b1 seems to fit my needs and be in my price range has that model experienced any particular faults?

Main issue (95%) for Vizio is main board issues... but I think it's not much of a problem for newer models.

I think I found my answer I'll stick to anything except Samsung for now I'll try vizio thank you.
