Toshiba Regza 42ZV650U Bad picture.

Hi Badcaps forum,

I have a Toshiba Regza 42ZV650U LCD TV. Manufactured in May 2009 so it's 4.5 years old. My problem started when I saw a black horizontal line across the top eighth of the screen. It was hard to notice unless you had an image that had a light background. I turned off the TV and unplugged the unit. I replugged it and the line as gone! But the next day, watching TV, the
black line came back and it got worse! Much worse! The screen below the line became black.

Attached are the pics.

Anything below the line is dark and then becomes white. (I assume it's the backlight) Anything above the line is either dark (hdmi input) or white static (cable/ant input). The osd or menu can work in area above the line.

My question is what is the problem and can I fix it?

Since can see the osd a little bit might be main board but seeing the line it could be a problem with TCON. Any thoughts on the cause of the problem?

My guess is the LCD panel is bad. Unfortunately this will not be fixable without replacing the screen which is too expensive to do in most cases.

Thanks for replying.

Do you think there could be another source for this problem like mainboard or the TCON?
When I first started to get problems, it was just 1 black line across the screen (1 pixel thick). When you have that, does that suggest main board?

As Tom said, even the one pixel line would suggest panel failure. Unfortunately, I have to agree with Tom's diagnosis.
