    Makes sense. As CCFLs age, they tend to no longer sustain at low levels - full power will still be fine (although dimmer than it used to be).

    I have salvaged a Lenovo R61i laptop by replacing the GPU, and on minimum brightness, the left side of the display almost goes out. It keeps being noticeably darker on the left up until the 3rd backlight level. I will change the lamp if need be - it's got a beautiful 1680x1050 anti-glare matte panel - but it works just fine on medium brightness and above. The lamp never goes out tho, but other inverters are diferrent. There's only one lamp in this panel.

      I also had a 19" LCD where the CCFLs would go out at about 20% brightness, but when at 100%, they've lasted 2 years and counting...
      Why people leave their TVs on the horrible default settings baffles me. Who can watch Dynamic mode and not go slowly insane?
