Re: samsung ps50q96hd
I had one of these I could not fix. Same fault. Got a lot better once warmed up. It's called mal discharge and is caused by panel aging. Perhaps the only fix would be to update control board firmware but I'm not aware of any updates from Samsung. Please do not PM me with questions! Questions via PM will not be answered. Post on the forums instead!

Same fault as those sparkles on LG plasmas but not as bad. No update available as far as I'm aware, sorry. Please do not PM me with questions! Questions via PM will not be answered. Post on the forums instead!

Re: samsung ps50q96hd
I had no difficulty selling same model with fault as described for £200, but it didn't sell for as much as it would had the fault not been there (would be around £250 to £300.) Then again the problem was quite minor and definitely went away 90% when warm...Please do not PM me with questions! Questions via PM will not be answered. Post on the forums instead!

I would try dropping Vs by about 5 volts and Vset as well (maybe 10 to 20 volts, can't remember if there's a test point for it.)Please do not PM me with questions! Questions via PM will not be answered. Post on the forums instead!

Re: samsung ps50q96hd
Could be someone has tried to adjust it too much.
To be honest, all my adjustments never got rid of the problem, they only made it get better quicker.
I checked all waveforms on the scope and it measured OK, the only conclusion was worn out panel.
13,000 hours in service menu, pretty poor for a panel rated 60,000 hours!
I had a PZ80 Panasonic with 16,500 hours, same generation (2008 PDP) and not a lick of maldischarge... but Samsung cannot get it right, even their new plasmas have these issues (see: red diffusion on D-series, red/green dots on C-series.)Last edited by tom66; 02-20-2014, 03:49 PM.Please do not PM me with questions! Re: samsung ps50q96hd
Dropping Vs can reduce the energy going into the panel making image retention less likely, that being said it probably isn't significant enough to make much difference. Please do not PM me with questions! Questions via PM will not be answered. Post on the forums instead!
