    Sanyo Xacti VPC-HD1000 - poor video quality+videos freeze in all players

    Hello,

    I got almost new Sanyo Xacti VPC-HD1000. To my surprise the quality of the recordings is to put it mildly quite poor.

    Moreover I can't get the videos play in any of my players (VLC included). Sometimes there is sound but the picture freezes.

    This is screen shot of what displays in VLC.

    Any help would be appreciated!

    I have the same camera and works great.
    What you do not have is a proper genuine software that supports MP4 encoding so to edit your videos properly.
    I had to buy the Corel VideoStudio X3 and the Power DVD 9 Ultra, so to have proper software for editing and play back.
    Yes you need to spend close to 200 Euro for them.

      You don't need to spend a lot of money to get a quality MP4 decoder. (libavcodec is open source and its implementation of MPEG4 is much better than the one originally created by MPEG, and the one shipped with Windows which the two products you mention will likely use.)

      The fuzziness is likely due to a high ISO setting, try turning down the ISO. Also increase exposure or turn on modes for shooting in darker scenes.

        @Tom66

        I don't really know what should I do with libavcodec and how do I install it on my pc (windows). Do I need ffmpeg? I followed this http://jonhall.info/how_to/setup_and...peg_on_windows and it failed.

          VLC uses libavcodec. Libavcodec is just the base library which you don't use. Don't worry about that for now.

          One thing to worry about is if the video skips when playing back your system might not be able to play back hardware accelerated 1080p video. What OS are you running? To play back 1080p without hardware acceleration you need a dual core 2.2GHz minimum Intel Core i3 or equivalent. With hardware acceleration you can do it on a Pentium III :P... As far as I know, hardware acceleration is only available in Win Vista onwards.
