Set has occasionally shown this pic on and off and then went back to good picture. now it is stuck on this. plasma is hooked up to cable. Is this a bad z sus ?

Not a bad Z-sus.
Is that with video input to the TV? Can you get anything on the other side? Looks like bad panel or missing Va/5V to X-driver boards.

hooked up to cable with rgb cables. right side is always black. could be one of x buffer boards ???

could a bad mosfet do this ??? usually a bad mosfet leaves a curtain wherever text is supposed to be displayed.

This is not a bad MOSFET which would cause repeated solid bar with no variation over vertical of screen. Since you say the picture is occasionally good, I'd go hunting for a loose cable; do this with power unplugged to avoid causing damage to the plasma panel (X drivers are sensitive to intermittent connections, and the X drivers can't be replaced due to be being bonded to the glass.)

It was intermittent but not anymore. My son has the set - Monday I'll have him switch to no input video and hit menu. I'll post picture. I think it might be bad control board. Doesn't seem logical that whole half a display would go bad with that many x drivers going bad.

That's a control board. Possibly an x driver but lg control boards fail that way. Most likely the main ic flow prob onto the logic board loke the old 42x3 boards had.

I'm going to disagree. I think at least in part the panel is bad because of the single pixel lines on one bar.
Half of panel can go bad if Va connection becomes intermittent causing secondary breakdown in voltage to Va drivers, causing permanent damage.

Yep your right Tom, I wasnt looking closely at those pixel length lines. Ran into that on some panasonic th-px60u sets. If one ribbon cable COF shorts it will load down the whole x driver on the one side.

funny thing is now set is working. hasn't been half screen for 2 weeks. I haven't taken back off set yet !

Well, I'm surprised I would have called panel on that. Possibly a loose connection then.

problem has re-surfaced ?? Has a good pic on right side - left side is smeared with video. any ideas ?

turned out to be left Xsus connector (on bottom of set) was loose ! Back to a great PIC.
