i have a samsung ps42q96hd ,it switches on but no picture ,, if you switch the light off ,you can see the screen glow ,, any ideas many thanks

OK, so next check the VA voltage on the power supply board. Should be around 60V.

That's Volts AC. You need to set it to Volts DC, the lefthand scale, and use the 200V range for Va. 40V is much too low.

does as you said set it on the 200v on dc , and the va is reading 100.5v way over 63v

Replace your multimeter battery with a fresh one. If Va still reads high, the plasma panel has likely been permanently damaged (driver IC massive failure), and this would not be repairable.

cant find a battery for it at the min tom ,, these cheap multimeters ,, is there any other test i can do

Not really, can't trust meter readings until battery is replaced.

it just seems weird that the screen is lit and it flickers if i use the remote to press the channels up and down ,, the logic board as a flashing led (led2001) and another comes on then goes out

Lack of image can be caused by logic board fault but also by high/low Va, plasma panel failure, or blown fuses on the X-board. Each needs to be ruled out in succession, that is part of problem finding, you don't just dive in and try random things. You make mistakes that way.

A 9V alkaline battery is a quid at poundland, just go and buy one. It will save you from making future mistakes. (BTW, I did a large scale battery test, and we found that budget alkalines pretty much perform the same as branded ones.)

hi tom , changed the battery in the multimeter , yes it was naf ,, anyway tested the va and reads 63.5 and vs is reading 206 ,, so about right on the reading ,,

OK, at this point I'll need a picture of the chassis of the set - one of all the boards. Clear and in focus, please.
