You undid the wrong cable; the LVDS cable is the one on the top near that header. That also explains your pink picture as the lack of an X-main drive would lead to a pink image on the plasma panel (due to poor plasma panel gas discharge.)
Those ribbon cables are hard to insert and align, so make sure you get that right.

The set run fine for 1 1/2 hrs - when I checked, the video was gone again. After powering off (unplugged the cord) in order to run suggested test, I was unable to power up. The relays clicked on and off again and wouldn't permit me to power up. I used the remote as well as the switch on the frame. Game over?
Don't throw it away yet!
There is one further test but you need to get a pair of 100 to 470 ohm resistors...

You want to unplug the main board power connector completely; this is the connector which hooks the main board to the power supply.
Then connect one resistor between PS ON and GND, and one between VS ON and 5V standby. The power supply should turn on, indicated by one or two clicks. If it does, unplug it. Then apply the 4-3 jumper and see whether you get test patterns on the screen.

That is the correct board, the pins should be labelled in a legend near where they connect. If not, will have to look up fast track guide.

Yes but in your case the ones that go to the main A/V board - i.e. the one with the video inputs on it - not the X- or Y-main boards...

Questions to clarify: do I leave the connector to the x & y boards off? Do I leave both plugs off (see picture)? And last - both plugs have PS ON and VS ON; do I use upper or lower?
Use the upper connector.
Everything except main board power and the main board LVDS to be connected.
When I refer to main board, I mean the board with the tuner, HDMI, video inputs, etc...

To clarify: I test (use the resistors here) on the upper connector (that's the one going to the tuner etc. and leave also the lower connector off (cable going to the board for the test pattern)
You want to leave the cable marked BN96....... off.
You want to unplug connector between main board and the power board, but unplug it on the main board end, and stick resistors in the exposed holes.
Everything else as normal.
Once you have done this post a picture so we can see if it's all correct.
