Samsung LE37A656: cannot turn this thing off

Didn't get this thing into my hands yet as I told the customer I will do my background research first. It is supposedly not possible to turn this thing off any other way than dropping the plug. So I am first asking what do you thing is the most probable cause of the problem so whether I am even able to fix it…it is my impression that some of you already had this line in your hands?

I have found that the 656 line suffers both from bad caps and displays. There is also some weird function (WatchDog) which may be preventing it from working normaly in the advanced settings. Last but not least, there was batch with bad bezel with this touch button which may also be keeping it on all the time, Samsung was supposedly servicing this under warranty.

Well, I somehow knew there will be troubles with these bloody capacitive touch buttons onr day. Also I found firmware upgrade mentioned crippling the TV, but hopefully it is domain only of those T2x0HD Display/TVs. Oh wait, are we talking about the same Samsung, who integrated upgradable firmware file into the TV in the factory, where upgrading it with this file will render the TV useless? So yes, it is perfectly possible they are distributing bad firmware through the terrestrial broadcast…

I would guess that it is an issue with the main board, maybe a bad voltage regulator. Do you have any pictures of the insides?

I'd also try info-menu-mute-power then reset.

Reset you mean turn on and off on TV? I know this was supposedly a cure for the T2x0HD, but it didn't help on the one I had. Not sure if the same trick may help on pure TV like this 656

When you plug in the TV does it go into standby? If not, perhaps try setting the sleep timer to 30 minutes, and waiting for it to shut off. If it shuts off.

Then enter that code once in standby.

I think it goes on immediatelly but I'll ask.
