    Samsung LN52A550P3FXZA HDCP not working - maybe due to eeprom reset?

    Hi,

    Dish Network is having a free preview this weekend which includes hbo. The Dish HD receiver is giving me an error message that this set isn't getting the hdcp signal. My interface is an hdmi cable and the set works properly on any other hd channel. The hdcp settings are correct in the Dish network box and the signal is coming through with no error if I connect a different hd television.
    According to Samsung, this set should be hdcp capable.
    I recently did a repair to the set that involved an eeprom replacement and power supply capacitors. I had to do an eeprom reset in the service menu to get the set to boot up and re-enter some settings.
    Never saw this error message before until the free preview.
    I have a feeling that I have an incorrect setting in the service menu but I can't seem to find one that corrects the hdcp issue.
    The edid is set to on.
    Anyone know what to change?
    The free preview ends tomorrow and since I don't get the error message on any other channel - I won't be able to know if it's fixed when I change a setting.
    I know that I could use the component inputs to view the programming but that doesn't solve the root problem.

    Your set is a few years old. HDCP works by banning devices which have been "cracked". If someone has figured out how to crack the HDCP key for your set, then that may explain why it does not work. (HDCP says "screw the consumer" if this happens.)

    You can buy a device such as HDFury which will remove the HDCP encryption using alternative methods, making the entire process completely useless.

      You raise an interesting point. I know there are folks that have cracked the OS of other Samsung models.
      I did a firmware upgrade (not Operating System) with the latest version available on Samsung's website. There was no difference between the older and newer firmware.
      I am going to a friends house tonight that has the exact same model. Pretty sure that his OS is different. I'm anxious to see if that set has the same issue.
      Unfortunately, his set also had an eeprom reset - so it's possible it also has a bad parameter.
