    Confirmation:

So during this relay clicking, I am going to test Va & Vs post voltages while the jumper is on pins 3 & 4 (light panel test) or off?

You said to check for 5v somewhere?

Re: Samsung PN50A530S2F Plasma Clicking Transformer BS

That appears correct; check for the Vs and Va, try with both Y-main/X-main plugged in and with it removed.

5.3V (=5V) can be measured on that same connector, multimeter on DC 20V scale, black probe on chassis of TV, red probe on the appropriate pin.

Re: Samsung PN50A530S2F Plasma Clicking Transformer BS

All DC voltages for Va, Vs & the 5.3v checked out ok with and without the X/Y-main boards connected.

*without the jumper on Control Board as per normal*

OK, now place the 3-4 jumper we talked about earlier. Y-main and X-main to be plugged in (wait at least 3 minutes after unplugging before connecting these.) Do you see test patterns?

Jumpers on, LVDS unplugged from the Control Board and failed to test – just did it's clicking.

I'm wondering if I should put the original Main Board back on and see if that will work? I take it we've eliminated that it was faulty?

With the Y-main and X-main disconnected does it still click?

You have a short on the Y-main or X-main then. Try with just one plugged in, and see if leaving one connected and the other disconnected leads to no clicking.

Oh, sorry about that. In post #25 above the only reason it was clicking was because I forgot to unplug the power connector to the Main Board.

Trying to do the panel test with the X/Y-main plugged in just now resulted in no relay clicking but the screen is black (not on).

Do I take off the resistors for this panel test? What was that for?

Do you get VS and VA without Y-main/X-main connected? It may be that the resistors need to be swapped around.

With the Y-main & X-main boards unplugged, I get a 4.8v read on the Vs post and 0v on the Va post.

Reverse the resistors? I did shift them over to the right which effectively reversed them but not sure if that did anything.

Do you get a 12V, 13V or 15V measurement on the connector going to the main board?
It is probable that the PSON is active low (it must be grounded to turn it on) and the VSON is active high (it must be pulled to >2V to turn it on.)

Hmm, I took off the resistors from the Control Board power connector and just tried to run the panel test and it just clicks away. Panel test fail.

With the original Main Board back on there, this test works so that little nugget is waying on my mind. Do I continue further tests with the original Main Board or the (supposedly) new one?

So you are getting test patterns now, with the jumpers in place, original main board?

So, the original main board is bad, and your supposedly newer one does the same thing? I point out the average 25% "bad board" rate regular members including myself find with eBay boards. Cheap, but untested.

The newer one cannot pass the panel test at all. It also relay-clicks in faster intervals than the original one so I guess it's bad too? Ugh.

Here are the two Main Boards together. They look a little different but they share the same code number.

Im lost with what you've tried / haven't tried.

In those 2 pics of the mainboards, the new one looks to have the proper heatsink / faraday cage around the processor, so if anything it looks better then your original. The inclusion of that cage is necessary often to meet us or European electrical interference emission requirements, so 1 version might be for a different market. But its not really necessary for the board to operate.

Theres also a usb on your old one, and a button at the top of the new one... neither should be a big issue though.

The whole point of the "panel" test is that you should get a very simple picture generated by the tcon with no input from the main board, that's why the mainboard needs to be disconnected (both power and the lvds cable).

Because power is disconnected to the main board there is no way to turn the set on , that's why you put a resistor on the power supply connector that used to go to the mainboard before you disconnected it. This forces the power supply to start / and it should stay on.

Now the part I don't understand, because tom hasn't said it yet, is are you expecting the panel test to display a test pattern forever till you unplug set? or is it supposed to just be for a few seconds then turn off. Also is the test pattern the solid green screen that he got?
