    Training guide for the 2010 FHD G20/G25 thanks to SVC for unearthing this little beauty.

    This would be helpful for any FHD with the TNPA5081

      I want to update this thread for others. I knew from running thru the steps here that I had a bad SC card and could actually see one blown resister. I was finding a number of other bad parts so I was thinking by the time I found a source for the parts and tried to get them soldered into place, well, I was worried about the time involved and my chances for success! So, I bought an SC board from: ModusLink PTS, Inc. for $104 shipped. I had checked the SU and SD card for shorts and they were not shorted so I fired up the TV with the new SC card and it was still a no go. I followed the testing of the SC with the SD and SU cards disconnected and found I had a bad SU and SD card. So I proceeded to get both of them on ebay (for $20) and I got 1/2 a picture (partial SUCCESS!!!, better than nothing right LOL). I got another set of cards (SU and SD) on ebay ($20 shipped) and replaced the SD card and THE TV IS WORKING!!! So, anyway, I think that that place I got the SC card from is the way to go if they have what you need because they are a REAL component level repair business. Ebay worked ok for the cheap stuff but it might not be worth if for some people. Thanks to everyone's info/input on this board, without it I would not have been able to do it! (Sorry I chickened out on the component level repair.)

        $100 for the SC is ok given what they want for them now. I guess MODULUS took your bad SC?

        If not, sell it.

        Surprised you could not detect the bad boards, more often than not they go short but they can still go low in resistance.

        That's probably why you got away with firing up the SC twice without blowing it again, if they were shorted the SC probably would have popped.

          I have sent them an email about buying my bad boards, I'm sure hoping they will buy them or at least take them for reuse. The SD and SU really measured close to right (resistance checks) except the 5V_F measured high but the board that worked measured the same. So whatever was wrong with them didn't really seem to show up with resistance checks on the SC41/42 test points. The good part about that was I wasn't as worried about turning the TV on and trying it, I knew they were not shorted.

            I moved the following post here as this is where I should have originally posted it:

            Hey now, I found a fried IC (C0ZBZ0001708) and transistor (DG3D5020SLW) on the SC Board and confirmed the error with the 2010 FHD Plasma TV Troubleshooting Handbook's resistance test on the P15V circuit. There is no other visible damage to the boards. The error light code is seven (7) blinks which indicates SC Board. I plan on testing the SU and SD Boards before retesting the SC Board after I swap the new components.

            Apparently, the parts are not available when referenced by Panasonic's part numbers but I found some references here on badcaps.net, to wit:
            IC16521 C0ZBZ0001708 IC 1 M81737FP
            Q16403 DG3D5020CSLW TRANSISTOR 1 DG502LW

            I used the above highlighted part numbers and ordered them.

            I have two questions that I hope to find answers to:
            1. Do I have the right part numbers?
            2. Aside from the SU & SD Boards, are there other parts/components that commonly fail along with the IC and transistor that I should/can check?.

            #1 From tom66: Are there any other FETs near that FET? Does that IC drive more than one FET? Have you checked the gate series resistor? (usually inbetween the output of IC and the gate.)

            #2 From tw2005: Search TNPA5081 and read my post, I'll be amazed if you get it going with just those 2 parts but maybe your the lucky one.

              @tom66 Yes there is one (Q402) other FET near the fried one (Q403) however there is also a D401 & D402 on the same heatsink. I've been looking at the schematic but I can't tell which FETs the IC is driving or where the gate series resistor is. I'll keep studying the schematic maybe it will start to make more sense.

              To complicate matters, I am having a hard time testing the FETs (Q402, 403, etc.) and the other three legged components on the heatsinks (D401, 402, etc.). Is the G the Gate, C the Drain and E the Source?

                Gate,collector,emitter. When they fail they go short from what I've seen but they are paired so one will short the other both would have to be removed to confirm if one or both are shorted.

                Check every IGBT on that board for short cct first, ie every item on the heat sinks including the fast recovery diodes.

                  Most devices on the sus board are IGBT not FET but they are tested in very similar manners.

                    Most of the instructions that I've found on testing IGBTs say to remove it from the circuit. But one said I could just look for low ohms between S-D, D-S while it is in circuit. Do I need to remove them to test?

                      I found a Mosfet test on badcaps:

                      "
                      a) black on pin 1- red on pin 2 - record ohms
                      b) black on pin 1- red on pin 3 - record ohms
                      c) black on pin 2- red on pin 3 - record ohms

                      If any reading is less than 30 ohms you might have shorted mosfet. Remove from circuit and repeat the tests to verify."

                      Is pin 1 the S pin (pins are labelled S, C, G)? I really need an ESR meter.

                        In this instance I would simply test across all combinations of 2 pins in cct for short cct. usually they'll be shorted across all 3 pins..

                        I use diode mode with the beeper

                          you don't need an ESR meter, I fixed these with nothing more than a FLUKE meter.

                            I found five failed three pin Qxxx point transistors &
                            I found four failed three pin Dxxx point diodes along the heatsinks.

                            The points were:
                            Q402, Q421, Q421, Q452, Q461, D401, D421, D422 & D482.

                            Q402 & D401 made single-short beeps.

                            Strangely, the transistor that had cracked in half was still reading as good.

                            I'll remove and retest the above IGBTs when I find a better soldering iron.

                                You sure they're all bad? Unusual for all those. measure centre pin to both outer pins in diode mode, measuring outer to outer will show short which is normal, pins are anode, cathode, anode. Center pin is cathode ,

                                    The diodes' pins are labeled A & K so I considered the connection between A pins to be normal.

                                    D401 just makes an occasional beep so it may be good.

                                    Unless something changes when I test them after removing them, D421, D422 & D482 appear shorted.
