    Samsung TV

Hi, I have just recently ordered some capacitors of this site, now they are the correct ratings, 1000uF 35v ZLH 12.5mm 20mm but the wrong size. Would this actually matter ? As I want to replace all the capacitors on my power board, I have heard bigger capacitors have a lower esr, does this just mean they are less likely to overheat ? Anyway, here is a pic of a capacitor on my powerboard. that I will replace, as you can see they are much bigger than the ones I have ordered.

    Thanks for your help

If you can get them to fit they will be fine.

The only problem is it might be difficult to find space for them, but otherwise, there are no concerns.

The caps you have ordered will fit as they are smaller than the ones you have on it now, I think tom got it backwards?
Do NOT touch heatsinks when testing for voltages as they may be LIVE!

Ah yeah, my error, but it works either way around.

Usually smaller diameter caps are a bit taller, but sometimes better technology allows Rubycon (or other good caps) to be smaller than crappy Samwha caps (which fail a lot.)

Bet they are better than AiSHi caps.

Well Aishi seem above par actually. Seen them die a few times in a ballast... but I mean, 85°C (I measured it) for 15,000 hours isn't bad for a cap...

Now Capxon... don't get me started!!

Well I replaced all but two of my capacitors, one of them I replace a 2200uf 10v with a 2200uf 16v, I made sure all the caps where 105C and the correct ratings. My initial problem was my tv screen kept on going black with the sound still coming through my speaker, it would do this randomly, so it made it hard to watch anything or use my computer. Since my fix, it works perfectly, there is no problems at all. I`m actually buzzing with the fact that a £8 capacitor buy has saved me at least £130 repair bill or worse £500 for a new tv.

The bad caps were all samwha, which are cheap and nasty, thanks samsung.
The replacement caps are Rubycon, so yeah I`m feeling super skilled and smart right now. There is nothing like fixing electronics your self.

Here is the capacitors I replaced, they all look fine except for one, should be easy enough to guess which one that is. Do you think this is the bad cap ? Without desolidering them, it would be very difficult to find it.

Oh thanks all for your help, nice website by the way, very helpful.
Would love to do business again whenever the need arises.

                  Excellent.

Yes, Samwha caps are very poor. They are second worse only to CapXon, in terms of the number that I have replaced, in both Samsung and LG products.

Your Rubycon replacements will likely last another 20 years, if not longer.

I too felt really clever when I picked up a 42 inch TV (LG) from the local tip for £20. I found four bad capacitors, and replaced them for a cost of £5. I later replaced it with a 40 inch TV (Samsung) I bought for £40 from someone, which needed £3 in caps replaced.

Dam it, my tv did it again.
Only this time, its not as freqyuent, I need to buy another 4 caps.
Should of replaced them all, oh well will order next week.

Maybe a cold solder joint instead. Very common with Samsung TVs.

                        Re: Samsung TV

Not sure, there is still around another 5 Samwha caps left, it could still be there is another
faulty cap on there. So far the problem rarely happens now, it use to occur after 1 hours of use, now that's about 6/7. When I used to turn the tv off, id have to wait 5 mins, and this would give me another 40 mins of tv time. Now I can turn it off for a minute, then I'll have another 5++ hours before it happens again. There also used to be an electrical discharge sound, kina like a crackle, as far as I can tell this has gone too. Since the swap it happens very rarely now, if at all. But the problem still occours.

Still buzzing that it's almost fixed.

Just an update really and posting so it may help others, my tv still had the same problem of randomly shutting of my display, while still playing sound. So I took my tv apart and checked the circuit board for dry dry solder joint, it turns out, I have two faulty joint which happened to power the main control board of my tv. So it works now, I was a bit worried that id blow something when I fixed it, but it works fine now. I have included a pic for reference.
