    LG 42PC3D-UD plasma problem

My samsung pn50a650 plasma went out the same week as my brothers

    LG 42PC3D-UD plasma
My Samsung is still under warranty by 20 days of a 3 year warranty talking about cutting it close. Anyway this post is for my brothers lg plasma
After reading a few post it seems theres a issue with this model ... I have read a few post and I haven't found one similar to the issue mine is having .. It's an 06 model no warranty so I thought I could get some info here..this is what happend ... They were watching tv world series of all things and the tv made a normal sound . The sound it makes when it turns off they heard the click and no picture but sound is there and tv stays powered on... I'm planning on going over there this weekend to pull it apart and start checking fuses and what not ... Has anyone had this exact issue ?? If so what was the outcome .. I'm no tv guy by any means but I am a master hvac tech .. So I know my way around a meter and understand boards ... Any insight would be fantastic
    Thanks.... Mike

This TV uses hybrids on the Y and Z Sustains. These fail frequently. A quick and dirty test is to turn the TV on in a darkened room while a signal source is connected. If a very faint image is seen, especially in the lower right corner, it is almost certainly the Z-Sustain; if the screen is totally black it is probably the Y-sustain. After opening up the TV, check the fuses on the sustains. The one with the blown fuse is bad. In some cases the fuses will all be intact.

The hybrid is expensive - about $40, and difficult to replace. Refurbished boards are available on eBay for about $50 and up.

I had him do a quick Check for a image or a light source... And he said that it has no pic no image just black like its powered off... I guess I will have to get over there and open it up.. What makes the board hard to change ... Is there adjustments that need to be done after the board is replaced ... So it's not just replace part and be done ??

I believe it's the replacement of the hybrid module itself on those boards that is difficult. Replacing the whole board assembly should be fairly straight forward.

A collegue and I are currently attempting a repair of those modules on a LG Z sustain on a 50PX5D. Not going that well due to lack of experience and appropriate tools.

As TW2005 said, replacement of the module is difficult; replacement of the entire board is relatively easy, although adjustments are required. On the Z-sustain there is one voltage to be adjusted, On the Z-sustain it is more difficult. If I recall correctly, there are three adjustments and one requires use of a 200 Mhz oscilloscope. LG Electronics 'Plasma Quick Reference Guide' has the details.

First of all, the 'stream of consciousness' posts may be fine for a diary or blog, but are difficult to follow. I'm rapidly reaching the point where I will consider it a waste of time.

Repair services are available for under $60 + shipping. Check the board number on eBay.

As far as another TV, dead cockroach or otherwise, start another thread.
