Re: daytek TV - kinda like 2 secs to black?

i looked up the datasheet for A (AZ1117D) it is a 1.15v regulator which gives me upto 1.162v and im at 1.196v is this enough for concern? i even went back and double checked my measurment just now.

Wait. PlainBill in post #16 hasn't seen the new numbers yet.

If you are looking at this datasheet

It is an adjustable at 1.2V through 5.0V. So 1.196V is okay.

The output of regulator E is definitely wrong. The only additional test is to check the resistance the output of E and the output of the 3.3 volt regulators. I suspect the regulator is bad, but if you get a low resistance, that would indicate that some other component is faulty.

i am having a hard time finding the replacement regulators by the part numbers LD33 and LD18 is there another part number that they go by and what is the classification for this case? TO-???

I search by "1.8v voltage regulator" on digikey.ca and then narrow down by package size. 1.8V is your output in the search field.

This wiki might help you determine which packaging you need. See "Three terminal packages"

                http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surface...#Package_sizes

If you are really desperate, these are typically "jellybean" parts. If you have old junk boards like a soundcard lying around, you will likely find voltage regulators.

If you want to buy locally, phone around ask. Brand does not really matter as long as you get the right output and package size.

Here's the procedure I use to locate a regulator like the AS1117-33.

Enter voltage regulator in the Parts Search box, hit Go

Select PMIC - Voltage Regulators - Linear This takes you to a page where you select various parameters.

Under Regulator Topology select Positive Fixed

                  Under Voltage Output select 3.3V

Under Number of Regulators select 1

                  Under Current Output select 1A

Under Mounting Type select Surface Mount

Now here's the tricky part. Under Supplier Device Package select SOT-223-3

Under Packaging select Cut Tape and press Apply filters

i finally got my new voltage regulator and i installed it and it instantly shoots to 1.9v and the symptoms remain the same. it keeps blinking.

any other advice? i tried 3 additional regulators and they are all around 1.9v

That indicates a short somewhere is pulling the 1.8 power rail high.

so what should i be looking for? a cap with zero resistance or esr that is close to it? or a blown off trace?

also which leg of the transistor should i be following around? there is the big wide tab at the top and also the middle leg both with 1.9v

Given that the voltage is too high, I would suspect a point where 1.8 and either 2.5 or 3.3 volts go. That would be one of the processor chips.
