    Cooler Master RS500 no load no party

    Hi,
    I repaired a RS500 (bad caps on +5 +3,3 and +5vsb) and experienced an unexpected behaviour by the psu. I usually test if the psu starts connecting the green wire to ground. This one shuts down immediatly, the fan spins just a bit. Connecting a small load, an hd, it runs good.
    It's the first time I see something like that. Do I have to expect this as normal for the future or am I missing something?

      Some PSUs won't start (well really keep running for more than a fraction of a second) without a load. AcBel units are known for this. Which specific model PSU do you have (should be something like RS500-xxxx-xx)? There were several different sub models of the RS500, some of which were made by AcBel.

              cooler master rs-750 load problem

              Hi everyone,
              my power supply shuts off under load, starts with out problem, the i tried to play game or benchmark, pc shuts off. I check the caps they looks good and looks like no weak solder. what shout i suspect?

              This is a Coolermaster case double-header.... The reason this one didn't get added to my 'misc build' thread is becasue the Cooler Master ATC-S aluminum case....That case is a class-act way above & beyond anything in that thread! However, we have to get through a mediocre build to get to the treasure!

              ...but here's the two Cooler Master cases in question; both of which were drop-offs for recycling.... The one on the left, I'm not really sure what model it is. It's nothing overly special, but it is well-made. The one on the right is an ATC-S solid aluminum, best I can determine...

              Hi Folks,

              Just wanted to clear up a misunderstanding of mine (or what I expect is one). Isn't the 12V rail from the 24 pin, EPS and PCIE separated? IE if I put a power resistor on the ATX 12V pin that is not going to load, thus tell me if the EPS or PCIE rails are fine?

              I was recently watching ArIs from Hardware Busters video on how to properly test ATX PSUs without using 5 figure Croma substations.

              The PCB adapter he used breaks out the 12, 5 and 3.3V pins from the 24 pin and gives you banana plugs to connect to. That is a bit useless is it not? Aren't...
