Startech - 12 V Sata HDD Docking stopped working - Need help to identify an IC

    Hello folks,

One day my Startech HDD SATA docking stopped working, instead of buying a new one I want to repair it. I've measure PCB and I think U10 is a mosfet and the culprit but I don't know what chip to order to repalce it.

    Thanks
    Sam

Thank you. U7 is the one on the 3rd pics (see voltage in red) , it has 12 V in and 10 V Out, that doesn't sound right ? it should be 5 V only ? I can try to inject 5 V at output and see if that work. Thanks.

U10 does not look like a mosfet, wipe it with alcohol, at least part of the name may appear

You need to remove U7. It is faulty. 78L05 is a fixed 5V regulator and it shouldn't be outputting 10V. It's most likely the reason why that 8 pins IC (whatever it was) blew up because it was supplied with 10V instead of 5V.

And 78L05 has to be removed before you can inject 5V, although at this point it is pointless to inject voltage. You won't be able to fix this device until that blown IC is identified.

Thank you. I've remove it now and I removed U10 as well.I've tried to find any marks on it but there's no way. I'll give up on this repair. Thank you all for your help.

The photos you shared have a very bad image quality. Did you use a camera phone from 20 years ago???

If we could see everything clearly it may be possible to guess what IC it is, what it does and to bypass it entirely.

                          Hi,

I have the above mentioned bord after repair, which was related to a lot of missing smd devices on the back of the board.
There were almost 20 devices missing, caps, resistors and some diodes/mosfets.
The board is generally working now, all PCIe ports are working, Windows installs normally.

However I have a problem with SATA ports 4-7 (the board has 8 SATA ports) - disks are not beeing recognized by the BIOS neither by Windows (which is usually normal in case BIOS does not recognize them).
The SATA 4-7 driver network is quite simple chipset<->buffers/drivers<->SATA...
