Sans Digital storage enclosure PSU

This PSU is in one of our backup towers, with 10TB of storage. It was starting to make that classic annoying grinding sound, aka a dying fan...so I decided to open it up and take a look. WOW did that fan go out quick, it only ran 24/7 for 13 months in a cool environment! The bearing looks horrible.

No brand on the label but it takes about 2 seconds to identify the OEM

Decently well made for its role, 4A bridge, 560uF input caps, 13009 switchers, 30A TO-247 schottky for 12V and 5V. Too bad the fan sucked....I replaced it with that Protechnic fan, no clip so I just soldered it to the board

Edit: Sorry I forgot to mention, the original fan was a Sleeve Bearing Globe Fan

Was the fan running at 12V? That's awfully fast for a temperature controlled sleeve bearing to fail. I'd guess there was little lubricant given to it when first it was manufactured and that the bearing (and shaft) was very dry.

It was temperature controlled. Yeah I'm guessing they didn't add any lubricant to it. I can look at the model number tomorrow. It's one I see fail in Allied's SFX PSU's too

Yeah, but it's fine to power 5 HDD's

Was the fan mounted horizontally? Sleeve bearing fans fail much quicker in that position...

Yeah it was horizontal. The Muhua exhaust fan was just fine but it was vertical, and probably higher quality
