Testing notebook mainboard power

I have been repairing a lot of laptops lately mostly those with power ports going bad. The last laptop i repaired i replaced the port but apparently there was some other damage so i had to replace the board.

So i was wondering if there was some way i could connect the ac adapter to the laptop power points if the power port is dead to test if the mainboard itself is working. That way i dont have to order the port and install it only to find out its another issue and have the customer waiting all that time.

You can take the power jack out, and solder some wires there, then just connect to adapter...unfortunately there is nothing to clip test leads onto, which is a much quicker/easier way.

BUT, most power jacks have a switch inside; it lets the computer know if the plug is in the jack. You might have to jumper this, but I varies from jack to jack...
