Look for a chip with ITE on it, the EC bios will be near it,it could be a winbond chip.

I think this is past me , will that chip be readable in the same way ? Thanks

I couldn't even get as far as bios it asked for the password to get in to it �� not sure what the EC would be like , is there any way to reset the password exceeded error now in the bios thanks , or anyway to read the password from the dump, thanks

It could be stored in the EC. There`s a seperate chip i think. Have a look around the board. Did you set bios defaults ? ,i there a setting under secrity for security chip ? ,try turning it on/off and bios defaults again.

Hi I re-programmed a chip now after a couple of boots it displayed an error- 0183: bad crc of security settings in efi variable.
press f1 to enter setup.

once pressed f1
it prompts for password still.

remove the bios chip from the motherboard, measure the legs if they are not short and if they are not, put it correctly and try again, maybe you are lucky ... if you don't buy another one ..

So silly mistake, kids bickering and I thought I'd checked but put the chip back on the wrong way round ! I know stupid mistake not normally I do, but can't turn back time , just need to try a buy a replacement chip, looking seems hard in the UK ?
