Hello all, I'm dealing with a very weird behaviour in a Toshiba Satellite P70-A-12J.
It powers up normally, CPU fan is spinning at full speed, and as soon as it logs into Windows, the cpu fan slows down as expected, but so does the CPU, it won't go above 900Mhz, now the weirdest part about this is that the CPU and GPU temps starts to raise with no apparent reason as there is no CPU/GPU usage. So I teared it a part, and the only thing I found was that the CPU (wich is still socketed - It's a core i7 4700MQ) had melted plastic from within the socket itself in some of the pins, as you can see in the attached files. So I cleaned them, put it all back together and now when it logs into windows CPU Fan is always at full speed, but now I have the CPU running at max frequency, (Speedstep seems not be doing it's job) while there is still almost no cpu usage.
Temps are now normal, but when I ran Prime95, what happens is that the CPU fan comes almost to a halt, CPU frequency drops from 3350mhz to 2700mhz and of course the temperatures start to raise like crazy. Stopping prime 95 makes the CPU frequency bump up to 3350mhz again but the fan will not bump its speed also, it's just spinning very slowly. This is puzzling me, i've tried with no hard drives, removed all ram sticks except one, tried with different ones, tried with Hiren's live cd(USB), tried different power bricks, and also this all happens working on battery alone, without being plugged into a power outlet. Now, as I do not have a spare CPU to test, wich is my best guest is that this one as gone bad, or it could also be the SMC.
What are you're thoughts on this, anything that I can try out?
Best Regards
