This machine was a donation to a guy I do board repairs for. It wasn't working so asked me to take a look at it. Some weird stuff on this one so wondering if anyone else has any experience on them? On the top panel it says it's a F756U, however the board says its a X756UQK.
So I found 19V on one of the coils, which was a shorted high side MOSFET. Was QM1830M, replaced with a AON7502. Thought game over, but this turned out to be the battery charger (no schematics or boardviews). Board working...some corrosion noted in a few spots but nothing too major.
Now something weird is that someone had removed the internals of the battery leaving only the controller. I only had a glance at it, but someone had jerry rigged a 7806 3 pin regulator in there. Maybe to fool the system into thinking it has a working battery?
Anyway running off my bench supply and no battery, the CPU is throttled to its slowest speed. Can disable BD PROCHOT using Throttlestop and system runs at full speed, and CPU temps are normal. Using the Intel Xtreme Tuning utility, this indicates Thermal Throttling.
So if anyone has any experience with this model, does in throttle if you don't have a battery or non-genuine charger? Don't know if it's worth him spending the money on parts etc since I don't have any schematics etc to troubleshoot it.
