Hi,
I'm not a technician so plase bear with me. Unfortunately I couldn't find anyone nearby doing motherboard repairs so I'd be happy if I can narrow down the issue as much as possible myself.
Issue: Laptop doesn't power on.
Story
This is computer of a relative. Laptop was working fine. I opened the back cover because I was planning to upgrade the RAM and wanted to see what was installed. Still working fine. I upgraded the BIOS. Rebooted. Still working fine. Last thing at the night I started the Windows built-in memtest tool. It passed. I rebooted Windows and powered off the computer knowing everything was OK.
Next day I put back the back cover, then tried to power on the computer and it didn't start
My relative's coworker IT guy send it to a repair shop but they didn't do anything at all (I don't know the details but from the looks of it they've only done basic troubleshooting - and since there's no backlight and fan spinup they didn't go further and written it off)
Now we're stuck with a beautiful paperweight.

Issue: Laptop doesn't power on.
- No backlight.
- Fans aren't spinning.
- Battery seems to be charging when plugged in to AC. (judging by the solid white led indicator.)
- I've unplugged battery cable and CMOS cable. Tried pressing power button for 30 seconds etc. Still not powering on.
- When I plug in the AC, but not press the power on button yet, I can feel heatsink is warm (battery&CMOS are still unplugged)
- Then when I press the power on button, indicator light is on solid white for 5 seconds, then it goes out again (battery&CMOS are still unplugged)
