    X541UV rev 2.0 USB 2.0 problem

Hi i got my hands on a asus x541uv, it works mostly but the USB 2.0 is not, i can plug in usb 3.0 devices on the usb 3.0 and it work fine but when i plug in usb 2.0 devices on the usb 2.0 or 3.0 slot it take like 15 secs and then windows show a error that the usb is not recognize, the 5v is shared over the 2.0 and 3.0 usb and is present so no problems there, i really don't know what else to look at, the usb controllers is in the cpu/pch combo is any chance is that bad? the entire usb2 doesn't work even the webcam mic combo don't work

with the help of the boardview i follow the traces and all is working so is a death end for me at this point

another thing is the keyboard is not working good, but i dont have a spare to test if is the keyboard or something else dont know it is related

    Try this

1- Go in your Device Manager when you plug in USB drive in USB 2.0 look for device "unknown device" newly popped up ,if you find one then it means you have a USB ROOT HUB section fault. Install latest chipset driver and after that
power option un-check where it is written "disable this device for power save option".

In USb Root hub section in device manager you can see USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 listed modules.

    hardware Check

check USB 2 area voltage 5Volts present or not and if you do see 5 volts look closely at pins there must be a pin un-soldered or in bad condition at connector.

Besides USB2.0, webcam doesnt work- Thats not a good symptom and chances of onboard soc being bad is very high. Just measure resistance on D+ and D- pins of usb2.0 port and report back. If any of those two pins are shorted , very likely its soc bad. If there are protection diodes, then do check them.

Today only i had one acer LA-A681P m/b-customer complaint-usb2.0/3.0+webcam not working. D- was shorted on usb port and there r no protection diode on mb though there is place to put such a circuit. Replacing SOC helped solve the problem. Companies save just 1-2 $ on protection circuit and there is such bad consequences.

Already try that and no luck when i plug the device it shows as usb but report problems, windows update not help and new drivers don't help
i desolder the usb socket and resolder it just to try and the same problem, the 5v is ok and dont drop on conection of the devices.

          Jus try this now
measure resistance on D+ and D- pins of usb2.0
there is no short and no resistance on any combination of "d+ ground" "d- ground " or d+ to d-" no resistance no short, if i mesure diode i get 552 on d+ d- and 5v pin, i don't see any protection diodes anywhere, when you refer to SOC what you mean? the PCH? or the ITE chip? sorry i am learning this

SOC-system on chip. This is the soldered chip and contains both cpu+pch. Its the fault in PCH part.

The resistance on D+/- seems not shorted. Have you tried dis-connecting camera??

              Oh ok thanks

Yes, i disconnect first the camera and them i try to disconnect the flex of the display, to see if was the flex shorted, and the same result

i am running out of options, it can be the SOC die in a strange way? but the usb 3.0 works without any problems of course when i uninstall the usb3 hub and the usb 2.0 disappear from the device manager, and when it reinstall and start to conecte the usb 2.0 devices start to show up as "unknown usb device (port reset failed)"

                  Re: X541UV rev 2.0 USB 2.0 problem

OK on the USB-PP7 according to the boardview is a usb not used by the board and go to the screen maybe for another webcam or i don't know, the thing is in the Pn7 if i test to the 3v going to the webcam i get the negative and show me the 3v on the multimeter, but i get the same result on the USB-PP7, but is not shorted to ground and don't give me any value when i test it on OMS, but it is a ground point that give my a 3v value when i test it against a 3v rail, so i gest this is the problem and is the SOC, there is a TVLST2304AD0 that serve as a protection but i take it out and the buard have the same issue, is the only usb-ppx that give me a negative value the others are fine but i don't see a way to isolate only that USB because after the TVLST2304AD0 it goes strait to the SOC

SO, i need to replace the SOC? a really bad luck to be the only non functional usb be short?

So, You mean the point PP7 on protection diode is shorted to GND?? It seems like my initial thoughts are turning true in your case.

let me see if i can explain myself better i am bad at explaining jajaja

the PP7 is not shorted to ground when i measure on oms or diode, but it serve as a ground point for the +3v, and is no continuity from pp7 to pn7, and is only on the "7" all the others pp are normal only give me the ground point to +3v on the PNx and PP when the usb device is connected give me +3v when i disconnect the device it show nothing
