If it boots then resetting the CMOS has worked.If not,then i`d get hold of some known working memory from another laptop.Its DDR3L.The next step after that is to take the motherboard out and start checking the voltage on all the large square grey coils.

Ok so everything looks like it's still there, save for the two screen icon where I connect to the internet and the clock is wrong, month, date and year but as soon as it fully booted I snagged my inventory from the clutches of death and saved them to my USB stick!! All the items were there! If it's just a missing icon and an inaccurate clock I feel like I dodged a bullet!!

Apparently I was getting an update when I shut it down....and the update is now downloading where it left off.

Under no circumstances could/would I have done this if it wasn't for your help SMDFlea. Thank you, I appreciate your help and expertise!

Should I be watching for anything kooky with the machine after this point? Also can I fill that empty RAM slot with another card like you mentioned above?

Well that didn't last longer than a snowball on a hot griddle. It updated and shut down then wouldn't reboot.

Well I'm not sure now what's up.....after several tries it booted. Strange. I'm checking for updates again just for the heck of it.

I can't help but wonder if this RAM card has an intermittent problem, or maybe a bad solder joint or single component failing upon the motherboard, like a transistor that's getting ready to take a dump?

I may try to re-seat the RAM card one more time and see what happens.

.Now you can set the time and date in the bios. Press F2 or Del to enter bios setup . Some updates will bork unless the time/date is set up .

Check the ram using memtest86 ,you can make a bootable USB key. Check the hard drive too.From an admin command prompt type chkdsk /r /f C: .Choose yes to run at next boot.

Is this as its booting up? I did set the time at the clock on the lower right side of the screen, is that the same?

Is this memtest run from the admin command prompt as well?

It took about 20 attempts this time but it finally booted again so I can run these tests now. Also if I select "restart" instead of shut down it will reboot OK. The problem seems to be when the machine is booted from a fully off state.

I did check in bios, the time and date are correct. EDIT/ADD: I ran chkdsk. Seemed to run kinda fast, near instant results. It said the volume was clean.
