A1259 820-01598 sticks to the logo (water damage)

    Hello everybody,

I'm working on an 820-01598 with water damage. I've already done a lot on the board ...

it started with the power supply was only delivering 5 volts - the 20 volts were missing.

There was a short to ground on PP3V3_G3H_RTC below J6700 PIN15 (keyboard-connector). I had to go 5 or 6 layers deep to remove the short circuit. To PIN15 (PP3V3_G3H_RTC) I pulled a wire bridge.

Since this work, the power supply is delivering the 20 volts and the Macbook starts up (i have only connected the display and charger for the tests). However, it sticks to the Apple logo.

After a while starting, the current of the charger is changing something between 480mA to 530mA .

I am very grateful for any help to come forward with my troubleshooting.

(Boardview and schematics are available if necessary)

Did you try booting from an external drive?

      Hi piernov,
thanks for the tip, I could have figured it out myself. I was so deep in the troubleshooting tunnel :-(

I tested it with an installation stick for HighSierra - it boots without any problems.

A few things still need to be fixed - e.g. Audio doesn't work right now. But I think I've already seen the faulty corroded areas for it.

I will continue to work on the board and hopefully fix any bugs.

Thank you for your help, piernov.

Macbook a2251 Water damage- stuck on Logo
        by Runnerboys
        Hi all,

Would appreciate your input, we have fixed a water damage motherboard for the a2251, there was mainly corrosion next to the 2 locations, but were able to clean it all

First few times- the Macbook would boot and got to login screen (didn't try to login), day after, when we tested it - it would get stuck on the logo and won't show welcome screen

What would be the best step to take from here to test? should I test Mobo components/ chip / storage? and if so- where do I start?

OR should I try to use the Apple Configurator and connect...

Stagg sms12p audio amp has water damage
        by edugimeno
Hi! My friend just brought this audio amplifier/speaker fro his music band saying they realized its got no sound. Led powers up but there no sound at all
I opened it and found 3 board. 2 of them are for input plugs and potentiometers, and the other larger board has the amplifiers for 2 large speakers that it drives
There's also a large toroid transformer that feeds a lower voltage to the first 2 boards and a larger voltaje (36x2 rectified close to 100v) to the power board. The power board has the plugs for both speakers
There is only one signal wire connecting the first boards...

Lenovo IdeaPad 3 15IAU7 that suffered water damage
        by Joel Ohana
        Hi,

I have a Lenovo IdeaPad 3 15IAU7 that suffered water damage. It doesn't turn on (white power light flashes when on button pressed), and the amber light flashes when plugged in.

        Symptoms:
        • Short detected – sparks appear when touching the charging port connection with board with a metal (even a multimeter probe).
        • Visible damage – after cleaning corrosion, I found 4 possibly burnt memory chips near PC3165, labeled UD5, UD6, UD7, and UD8.

What are my next steps to diagnose and possibly repair it without replacing the entire board? Any guidance would be greatly...

        A2141 820-01700 Water Damage L8504 Damaged, U3100/U3200 power cycles UB300/UB400 5V .25A
        by abajor
Like title says A2141 came in with Water Damage, customer desperately wants the data.

The actual water ingress doesn't appear too bad it sat for a day but was very dusty internally. I have no idea why L8504 was arced there is no apparent moisture there or around the LVDS cable; however, the LVDS to screen screw studs had popped off at some point and somebody tried securing it with kapton tape.

I had to create a micron wire pad jumper to reconnect the south side of the L8504 since the primary pad was blasted down to the vias.

That said after cleaning up the...
