Yes you can replace Core i3 with Core i5, but you must use the generation.

(some laptops can use Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge, but assume it doesn't work)

You need to look into microcode in bios. Only those listed in bios will work.

No other cpu will support on this platform.

i think for the microcode in the bios... that's why im running a 9 gen cpu in my z270 laptop

@piernov Micocode in bios has support for the listed processor only-so most probably others wont work.

I thought same generation, stepping and socket used the same microcode, as they all have the same CPUID and Platform ID. Would an SKU released after a microcode revision cause a compatibility issue even though it's the same core?
