Lenovo Ideapad 305-15ibd died and won’t turn on.

So I’ve had this laptop for a couple of years and it had been looking worse for wear recently. Anyway, it finally just stopped working yesterday mid session. It doesn’t power on and there are no lights at all, and the fan doesn’t spin up.

I have taken a look inside and realised I have no idea what I’m doing as I’m a beginner. I’ve tested the DC jack... works fine. Charger delivers 20.6V and that comes through to the jack. I found the schematics for it on this forum but in honesty I don’t know what I’m looking at. I understand the basics but not exactly how the schematics are supposed to help me. Anyway, I tested JDCIN1. The first and second rails jump between 0.8V and 1.8V and the rest are 0V. From what I’ve seen of similar models the first and second rails should be 20.6V like the charger and DC jack?

Anyway, this is as far as I have gotten. Any help would be appreciated or any sources on how to diagnose problems with the circuit using the schematic diagrams as I would like to learn. Thank you.

Try disconnecting the AC adapter & battery. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds. Reconnect power and try starting the Mob again.
Try another AC adapter or try that adapter on another Lenovo

    If none of that helps

    Test Pl101 Pl102 for +20V
    ADP_ID 3.3V ,AC Adepeter 90W?
    RTC Battery 3.3V
    PQ301 fet pin 5.6.7.8 +20V pin4 8.8V pin 1.2.3 +20V
Voltage on PQ302 must be the same measurements

I don’t currently have another adapter to test but it produced the right voltage with a multimeter (around 20V). The centre pin produces a .286 ohm

My adapter is rated for 65W.

I will see if I can get another one to test as it is getting very hot at the tip.

      No change removing battery.

      PL101 and PL102 both 0.8-1.8V
PQ301 all pins produce between 0.8-1.8. These are all the same as pin 1 and 2 JDCIN1 I’m not sure exactly but could the fault be with the JDCIN1 connector? .

      Battery 3V.

      Thanks for your response.

Most probably main line 19V short to GND that’s why tip of the adepter getting hot,now it’s time to do cool checking with out power & Battry, test your first 2 P-Channel PQ301/302 Mosfets for Readings, check out YouTube /Google how to test P-Channel fets

I've tested pq301 and pq302... pq302 drain to source on the continuity test beeps which according to tutorial means it's damaged?

Also diode mode produces measurement of 0 resistance which indicates it is defective but I'm not sure.. Pq301 reads just a 1 for all pins on diode mode and no beep on continuity so I'm guessing that one is fine.

Is this the fault here on pq302? Or could the mosfet just be on/off and I don't know it?

Re: Lenovo Ideapad 305-15ibd died and won't turn on.

Put the black probe in Source Red Probe in Drain diode or Continuity mode the Good Value some ware around .500
Put the black Probe in Gate Red Probe in Source Good Value 0 or high, upload the Values of both Fets
Most of the time 1st Mosfet PQ301 RBFET protect the Mob from EMI (electromagnetic interference) killing it self

                PQ301 - diode mode
                Pins 8, 1 - .972 ohm
                7, 2 - .664 ohm
                6, e - .662 ohm
                Gate -> source .262 ohm

                PQ302 diode mode
                8, 1 - 0
                7, 2 - 0
                6, 3 - 0
                Gate, source - .262ohm

remove PQ302 with the help of a hotair station hope you have it, test the Fet out of the Mob , do you have a replacement P-Channel Fet 30V ?

Thank you for your help so far!

I will get my hands on a hot air station and fet and try that. Am I looking for the resistance to be 0 like when it isn’t on the board?
