HP Pavilion 15-f305dx bad Adapter Select Circuit

    Hi everyone

I have this hp-pavilion-15-f305dx here not switching on.

The dc socket has been broken I guess they tripped over the wire(Adapter Cable). The middle pin must have shorted with the inner (+) section. (Inside the socket/Adapter Pin)

At the moment the motherboard won't switch on with a newly replaced DC Socket. The LED lit up when you press the power switch nothing happens, the LED for the adapter(At DC Socket) goes off for few seconds and comes back on again.

I found that all the inputs seem fine on the main rail as well as 5V rail.
3.3V rail is weird it gives 5.4V - 6.9V (Some what jumpy)
I found that R336 Heats up (very very hot) *See schematic section attached*

If I remove R336 or D7 the 3.3V rail returns to Normal but no more LED for the adapter at the DC socket and also still not switching on....

Any ideas what I could do with this?

I have replaced R336, R329, D7 Just for the sake of it. *With the correct parts*

    Maybe the EC got fried.
What voltage do you get on both pads of R336, *without* R336?

      Hi Piernov
      Thanks for the reply

      The pad connected to D7 of R336 = 0V
The other pad gives Adapter voltage 19.5V
The upper part of D7 gives 3.3V

What is the resistance to ground on the pad connected to D7? (effectively measuring R328)

Hi again Piernov. its 11.92K Ohms so its pretty close to what R328 should be...

have you tested it using another AC adapter?
In addition, it may be possible to get rid of the ID pin using some method such as the one described in the following thread:
            https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=71202
it is not for HP laptops, indeed.

Ok so either the center pin is still shorted to the power pin inside the connector or the AC adapter is bad.
You can check resistance between AD_ID and the + of the connector inside the laptop. And also check the resistance between the center pin and the inside of the barrel jack of the AC adapter plug.

Hi Guys thanks for the suggestions

I have tried another Adapter will try another soon.
The pin is not shorted on the DC Socket itself. Also no resistance *0.5 Ohm* but i think thats just the leads or something....

The adapter seems to be shorted on the ID pin and the + *this is the client's adapter so I already assumed its faulty*

Will report back after the new Adapter Test

OKay.. Brand new adapter 65W/45W and brand new DC Socket with cable.
No more overheating of the R336 voltage is 0.6V.

No LED on the DC Socket, and ID pin to ground resistance is 1.8K

                  Still not starting

Okay so after reflowing and checking things and so on.... I found no ECPWROK... SO I replaced the EC with a similar series. ITE8528E (Original) with a ITE8527E(Replacement)

Works now. Seems to run fine... will keep it running while doing various tests/checks.

                    Thanks guys enjoy the weekend!

So you mean IT8528E and IT8527E are equivalent??
