Just a general tablet repair question, i have been asked a few times recently to look at dead tablets, once you have checked the power supply and usb port and general battery voltage where do you guys start with fault finding? are they like laptops that have certain voltage rails etc as most of these tablets schematics are not available, until now i have said i cant do anything with them but getting asked a lot more now so time too learn.

If the physical stuff and voltages check okay, then if the tablet doesn't boot, it is likely some corrupted firmware, bootloader, etc.
Data recovery on tablets can be $$$ rewarding. Fixing premium priced tablets like Apple or Samsung could be worthwhile, but for some tablets, you will likely find that the cost of repairing one is more than just buying a new one.
I don't know if there are schematics since I have no interest in fixing hardware problems beyond the simple battery replacement and bad ports. The parts are getting too small and I have no hot air rework station.

tells you how difficult is to take apart a tablet. Note Apple consistently scores near the bottom. Proprietary screws, tons of glue, etc.
Louis Rossman and Jessa (ipadrehab) do a lot of these fix Apple iphone/ipad youtube repairs so you get an idea of what to expect.--- begin sig file ---
