Toshiba Satellite C660-2GG start fan and turn off after 3-4s

    Hello all,

I have searched before posting and have found similar thread but are not relevant or are unsolved.

I have white Toshiba Satellite C660. When I press power button Fan start and the power light comes on. After 3-4 second Fan power off, but power light stay light.

    Model: SATELLITE C660-2GG
    Part No.: PSC1LE-04M006S4
    DC 19V, 3.42A
    1E/+0/CI
    SERIAL NO. YB020278K
    YB020278KSSC1L04M006S4B
    TOSHIBA EUROPE GMBH

    I try this:
    - Remove and replace RAM memory with new. *(Not helped - Same problem)
    - Remove HDD. *(Not helped - Same problem)
    - Remove Battery and only on AC power try. *(Not helped - Same problem)
    - Remove Battery and AC power. Then press power button and hold about 60s and return AC power adapter and try. *(Not helped - Same problem)

If any else have same problem or has suggestion for this suggestion?

    Thanks.

So did you see this computer working and then the failure? Remember to h wear a wrist strap that is connected to ground when working with internal components. Make sure the wrist strap has 1 Meg Ohm resistor inside to protect you from electrical shock. Do you have a user manual with this device? Will it boot up into the Bios? What are the indicator light telling you? Have you tried a VGA monitor and pressed F5? If all this fails the next thing would be to disconnect the battery, power adapter, press the power button and hold then find the RTC battery and take it out. To get to this battery you will have to dismantle some of the computer. It is best to have service manual for this as it will explain how to do this. You may find one to your computer online for free. If you go online to Toshiba you will find your exact model number. It usually is a three digit alpha numeric number. Usually there is a sticker on the bottom of the computer that has this. If all the above does not help then you will need the schematics and a multi-meter to look at the voltages. A storage Oscilloscope would be better and a logic analyzer even better. Still there are some voltages checks that you can look for. Understand through that a computer has very complex timing circuits that are dependent on each other. They also have sensors; voltage, current and thermal protection which shuts down the computer within a few milli-seconds.

Yes when I plug in AC Power on my laptop I can see green lamp. When I insert battery that lamp becomes red.
Now I can press power button and second green lamp will be light as shown on first picture. In same time CPU Fan start rotate. After 3-4 second CPU fan stop rotate but second green lamp stay ON. CPU and graphic chip work because after 1-2 min metal on these chips becomes warm.

I open laptop and make several image. This board is very clean and I can't see any damage. I clean thermal paste from CPU and put new Arctic Cooling MX-4.

After I press the power button and hold then find the RTC battery and take it out. I try this several time but not without success.

I post image of board and if you have suggestion tell me.

Friend I have only multi-meter but not Oscilloscope. Do you have schematics for this board? And where I can find?
I will measure Voltage on all elements what you say.

      EDIT:
      I found this:

Can you only tell me what I should measure?

Problem could be with Intel PCH, try to reball

I'm sorry Sir but can you tell me what is Intel PCH on this board?

And now when I clean and made one unit, when I press power button CPU Fan start rotation and second green lamp will be light as shown on first picture. Now after 3-4 seconds CPU fan stop rotate and second green lamp turn OFF.

Before we start re-balling lets try a VGA monitor. If you have a HMDI port this may also work. Do you have the user manual that will tell you what the indicator lights are for and what the colors mean. If the voltages are on the chips that is good as no safety mechanism is turning them off. I would disconnect the battery as this seems to be a problem with the red indicator light and just use the power adapter. Have you tied pressing Fn+F5 to see if the monitor was turned off on the internal monitor and turned on to the outside monitor? Will the unit boot up into the bios. To boot to the bios you would keep pressing F2 continually just after you press the power button to power the unit on.

Also, did you see this unit working and then it failed or was it brought to you after it failed? I also got this from another web site if you press and hold the 0 (zero) key and then press power button to start up it will go into Toshiba HDD Recovery Utility screen will appear
              That might also work.

Sir I now try with VGA monitor but nothing. I pressing F5 but on screen don't have any changes... I try this with battery and without.
                ..
First LED is indicator for battery, Second LED is light when Laptop is turn on. Sir I don't have User Manual for this Laptop. I buy him from my friend.

Now after 3-4s Fan and Second LED lamp turn OFF.

I try press F2 continually just after press the power button to power the unit on, but laptop shutdown again after 3-4 seconds.

I am a little confused this is from your post #3: Yes when I plug in AC Power on my laptop I can see green lamp. When I insert battery that lamp becomes red.

You said the second green lamp stay On after 3-4 sec. and the most recent post your said that second green lamp is turned off?

So I would agree it is a hardware problem. I just want to confirm that the Ram is seated properly and it clicked into place and one side is not out more than the other?
If this is all OK then I guess next is to see what voltages you have. That will require the schematic. Or from sopik78 you can reball if you are confident you can do this? Or sopik78 will have to talk you through this.

After I have different problem Now both FAN and second LED lamp after 3-4 seconds turn off.

Inside laptop have two RAM memories 2x2GB. I test this memories in another laptop and work perfectly. Memories are seated properly.
I will measure voltage firstly because I don't can do that If all voltages be good I will try do that

So that would indicate if you had one problem before you did the Arctic paste and Bios battery and then another problem after you did these things either you have done something wrong or there is a problem with some type of connection, either cold solder joint on a connector or its pads. After you did the above things did you reassemble to laptop to see if it worked?

                          Yes sir you have right.
After I change thermal paste and Bios battery I have similar but different problem. Now after 3-4s FAN turn off and and second LED lamp stop light.

Now I again open this laptop and only stay Motherboard with RAM, CPU, CPU FAN and power button. All other components I remove from board.
on that motherboard I put in AC adapter and again after 3-4 sec same problem. I measure Voltage on board when I press power button.
In first 4sec I have Voltage on some pins where flat cable insert. After 4 sec I lost Voltages on board...

I'm sure I'm well connected all components.

Re: Toshiba Satellite C660-2GG start fan and turn off after 3-4s

Is the schematic you posted in post #3 the correct schematic for this computer?
One other thing when you tried changing the display from internal to external you said that you pressed F5. I had made a mistake in post 2 and corrected it in post 6. There are two key that need to be pressed together they are the Fn plus the F5 keys.

If the schematic is correct then go to page 4 there is a power rail truth table. You can look for those conditions. Also, TPS51125ARGER chip look for power good pin 23. Page three has the power tree on it which will give you a good way of tracking down which voltage you are getting and to which places.

You will need to look around to see what voltages you are getting and where you are getting them. Some condition is turning off your laptop. We just need to find out where.

Also check that the modifications are in place. page 42

First you need to know the model no. If your computer is a Satallite and not a Satallite Pro your model number are C660-108, "-10C, "-10D, "-10E, "-11H, "-12E, "-12T, "-154, "-15G Where " = C660
