    HP Pavilion DM1-4160sf artifacts

    Hi,
Im having problems figuring out what's happening with this notebook.
Client brought it in saying it starts up but no signal on main screen but for me it booted alright and went into windows but after 2 minutes the desktop got full of artifacts. I tought it could be a memory problem so I started up memtest and let it run a few times without any errors.
At one moment, I picked up the notebook from the left corner and the memtest screen went all artifacts like in the picture below. I gave the laptop to a friend of mine to check the mainboard but found no ill.
Today, the laptop started but no vga signal, so I let it run about 5-7 minutes and rebooted it and got screen.

Could it be bga joints are broken and video chip needs a reball?
I searched google but found no topics related to my problem.

If anyone had any experience with this laptop let me know. I dont want to reball just for the hack of it.

Well, my firm is moving to another location and some of my equipment was already send over, monitors too while the bga tools are still at the old place. Will check on external vga in case it wont give main screen. From videos I've seen the cpu is soldered directly to the board. Maybe I should have said that when I reach windows and lift the notebook from the left corner it goes BSOD immediatley, so definitely something is breaking or making an unnecesary short.

I suggest you to disconnect the internal monitor first before connecting it to external.

For me it seems like a bga problem. Can you tell us which vga chipset it has?

Laptop stayed at work and forgot the chipset number. 216-0752001 perhaps? I'm not sure.

              Story ended.
I took apart the laptop but only partially. When I wanted to remove the rams from the motherboard I noticed that some paper covers them, the paper from the ram side was sticky and guess what, a screw was stiched to it which ofc was pressing one of the rams down when you took the laptop and wanted to move it somewhere else or simply grabed it by the left corner. For now all is fine, no matter how I grab the notebook the artifacts dont return, will give it back to the client to test it for a few days.
