Asus 2021 ROG Strix G17 G713 not powering on and not charging.

    Hi,

I have an Asus 2021 ROG Strix G17 G713 that is not powering on and not charging. Board number is G533-6050A3250201.
When plugged in, I found that the 3.3v/5v regulator was getting extremely hot, so I removed, next I found a short on the 3.3V rail. Removed the two 3.3v mosfets and found one of them shorted, but still the short on the rail did not clear. Then I injected voltage at that rail, and found out that U60400 the 2.5v rail was also getting hot. Removing it changed the short from 0 ohms to about 5-6 ohms, then I remove a bunch of other suspect components but that did not clear the short.
Something of note, the resistance of the inductors feeding the GPU (PVCORE_DGPU I think) is close to 0.1 ohms or something in the milliohms, is that normal?
Also the resistance of the inductors to the processors are around 4.2 ohms.

How do I move forward from here?

    Thank you.

      1. Do not worry about GPU, if GPU mosfets are not shorted you have nothing to do with that.

      2. Remove all heatsink and pci components like SSD and WIFI .
Now that you have removed U60400....
inject 0.9v on the 2.5v rail and see what is getting hot and what is the Amp draw?

There is no point to inject anything into the 2.5V rail without indication, so it's hard to understand this advice. It was already clarified that the 0 Ohms short on the P3V3AL originated from U60400 and the resistance is still not healthy.

The real solution is as simple as obvious: find the other defective components on the P3V3AL track and remove them until the resistance to GND reads healthy again. Chipset fried too? Possible.

It's a common sort of failure. More often with the 5VALW, than with the 3VALW but still common. In these cases its the best to know something about the device history, since there was obviously a serious incident on the P3V3AL track.

ASUS ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING — Board not powering on properly
          by ShadowAi12
          Hi,
I recently bought an ASUS ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING motherboard that was listed as "dead, not powering on." However, it does show some signs of life. I've performed several basic measurements and would like to share the results.
          • The board enters a "ready to power on" state after plugging in the PSU.
          • Pressing the power button increases power draw.
          • Sometimes, touching the RSMRST_L pad with a multimeter probe causes the board to shut off and return to standby.
          Measurements:
(taken after pressing the power button, while the board is attempting to start)
