    MSI GF76 11UD

I need some help diagnoising a problem with an MSI GF76 11UD (board number MS-15821 ver. 1.1.). I have the boardview buy no schematics. There is a short somewhere. When power is applied to the charger jack, the first MOSFET (PQ27) gets very hot. I thoght this was the short and replaced PQ27, but this did not fix the problem. The short seems further down the line. I removed capacitor PC250 but that didn't fix it either. I lost capacitor PC250 somewhere so I need to replace it. The boardview lists the part as C0805_H1_8. I assume 0805 is the size, but what is the value? Any pointers on this repair would be appreciated.

Yes, 0805 non-polarized capacitor. This is a bulk filter capacitor for the SDC_IN+ line. Purchase the highest capacitance for this 0805 sized part but be sure the voltage is higher than the adapter voltage. Suggest 25v or higher.

For example, 22uF / 47uF / 10uF / 4.7uF should be fine. You can probably source from Digikey / Mouser / spare donor boards.

Thank you. Any idea what H1_8 means?

No. Not relevant to the part. Ignore it.

Whats the resistance to GND on CLR?
Seems like main 19V rail is shorted.

What does CLR mean? I did measure the resistance to ground on each MOSFET. The short appears on the source lead of PQ34 MOSFET. It measures about 0.5 Ohms to ground.

              Current Sensing Resistor=CLR

Its usually located after 2 dc-in mosfets. Alternatively you can measure resistance to GND on pin5-8 of 2nd dc-in mosfet.

No power should be attached while measuring resistance.
