HP Elitebook 855 G8 all of a sudden does not power on. 7 flashes of Caps lock and Number lock prod ID 4X5S2PA#ABG

    HP Elitebook 855 G8
    Product ID:4X5S2PA#ABG
    Motherboard M53301-601.

Hi Gurus, I am wondering if someone might be able to help. I purchased recently this used computer that otherwise looks in mint condition. I worked for 1 week, until one morning I shut down the computer using the power off commands in windows. There was no warranty. This was purchased for my teenager for use at school.
When I went to start the computer up in the afternoon, all the keys lit, but the computer didn't POST. Then the next thing I tried (pressing the power button) resulted in only the caps lock and number lock keys flashing in sync, slowly (around 1hz) for 7 times before shutting off.
The power /charge light adjacent to the charge port is on solid irrespective of if there is a charge cable plugged in.

There is no noise, no lights on the screen, If I take the cover off, no fans run.

    I have tried:
removing the battery and waiting 1 hour before reconnecting.
various key commands that work on other HP elitebooks.
    I have tried different RAM.
no change in the above - that is to say the flashing keys don't change.
I have dropped it off at a local PC retailer that states they are authorised HP and they tell me after all of the standard testing that the fault likely resides on the motherboard making it uneconomical to repair.

Where do I start looking? I've seen some videos which go around the board checking for voltage levels, but don't know where the test points on the MB are.

I've had experience mostly in the aviation electronics sector - I have access to standard DMM, DC power supply, basic SMD rework station and a 2 ch+ trigger Digital O'scope

    Thanks
    Kiwi

Hi! a) I would look the internet for any explanation of those blinking codes. b) Check for all coils whether one of them has a short to GND. c) Check all coils for voltage. d) Try starting the system without the battery. e) Check for current in standby. Shall be about 10mA.
