X1 Yoga 1st Gen Modify CPU Fan error?

I have a 1st get x1 yoga (type 20FQ) and am having issues powering on. I will get "fan error" during post, and then the machine will shut down. I don't *think* it's the cpu fan, because it's spinning just fine, doesn't feel like the bearings are out or anything, and nothing is obstructing anything. Sometimes I have to try turning it on 20-30 times before it will finally go. It seems like this is a decently common problem. I read on a forum somewhere that someone modified their bios to delete the error so the machine will boot up regardless of the fan state.

I can't seem to find any information on this. Could anyone help get me pointed in the right direction?

    thank you much!

To me, if it takes 20-30 times before the fan spins, then the fan is defective.

Check the voltage to ground of the FAN_ON signal to confirm if the fan is being requested to turn ON or not. If yes, then the fan is 100% defective and needs to be replaced.

No the fan spins up like normal every boot. I've never had it not spin. I just power cycle it over and over until that error for one reason or another doesn't happen then it boots. The fan is working correctly. I'm guessing somewhere it's not able to get a read on the fanspeed so the machine doesn't think it is spinning, when it is.

Edit: My other idea was to see if I could find the right resistor to tag on to the fan speed pin just to make it look like its at some acceptable rpm. But I believe the fault is board side not the fan.

Measure the voltage to ground of pin #5 on the fan connector when the fan is running.

Oh I didnt notice this until just now. I bought this laptop used off ebay, looks like the fan header is damaged. I'm going to assume this is probably the issue. Just heating up my hot glue gun to try and tag the ribbon cable down after I measure what I can
