HP omen HP 15-dh1005na - No charge while on

    Hi,

We are having problem with HP omen HP 15-dh1005na Motherboard:GPC54 LA-J662P Rev 1.0 laptop randomly restarts, and it did not charge battery. PQB01 we're blown replaced, laptop charging only while laptop is off. While the laptop is ON in windows, we're getting a message that charger wattage is incorrect, and it does not have a charging light at all. Tried on 180w, 120w and lab PSU, no change, while it's off it does charge on any charger.
    PQB 1&2 S&D 19.5v, G 24v.

The laptop does not power on while battery disconnected, only show white light on the charger.

I don't have any schematics or board view for it.

Which charger IC is @ PQB01 ? If available, post pics of this region. If the power rating of the adapter is incorrect, confirm the connection from the DCin jack onto the logic board. For HP, this will be an analog voltage that is being sampled by the EC. The threshold voltage of this analog voltage from the adapter (the tiny needle like pin in the barrel jack) is the identifier for the adapter.

Laptop does require 180w and our charger is also 180w, pin look good, charging port as well. IC- Intersil 88739A, PQB01 NIKOS PK5N2EA, replaced with similar N-CHANNEL mosfet.

See attached. Found a similar HP schematic.

        Share all the voltages on

        PQB03
        VCIN1_ACOK
        ; pin 2 on PUB01

        to ground.

The adapter ID signal is protected by an ESD TVS diode. Remove all power and measure the resistance (not diode) to ground of ADP_SIGNAL. Checking to see if the TVS diode @ PD1 (if it is even onboard) is damaged or not.

          Hi,

          here you go :
ADP_SIGNAL - 450k OHM and goes slowly up, does not look like damaged.
          VCIN1_ACOK 2.8v
          PQB3 (1 - 24.5V) (2/3 - 19.5V) (5 - 19.3V)

            These measurements look ok.

What is the voltage to ground of ADP_ID ? Take this measurement with each of your varying power adapters. Each should offer a different voltage due identify the different power ratings of the power adapters. You can compare the voltage measurements on another known good HP laptop.

Measured on PD1 leg 3 ADP_SIGNAL it vary from 1.9 to 2.1v depend on the voltage

Remove all power. Meter in resistance mode (not DIODE mode); measure the resistance across PR3. Then repeat for PR5. Each should be ~10k ohms.

It is not marked on the board so i've added picture underneath
                  1. 242 OHM (I believe it is way to high?)
                  2.10k OHM
                  3. 100K OHM
                  4.10k OHM

Locate the ESD TVS diode with label PD1. Is that located to the right of PD2 ? You will need to trace that component to locate the unmarked resistors which will be PR3 and PR5.

Post a pic of PD1 for a review.

The resistors of interest appear to be on the other side of pcb. Meter in diode mode. Short the meter probes. You should hear a tone beep.

Place one meter probe on the PD1 device but on the side with the 2 pins. Other meter probe on the other side of this board. Probably under this device. Show a pic of the other side. You are trying to locate the 10k resistor that mates with the adapter ID line.

Measure the resistance of those parts once they are found.

Checked resistors and both are 10k, after replacing 1st mosfet the only problem was with the charger as this version of the laptop require official 200w. Thanks for your help!
