    Lenov Yoga C740-14IML laptop freezes

    Hi all,

I am really lost on this one. Lenovo Yoga C740-14IML. Running W11. Machine freezes intermittently. It may work for hours, then suddenly freeze. Or it may freeze as soon as it starts and gets to lock screen.
    Now, what was checked:
    1. BIOS and all drivers are up to date. W11 was re-installed. No additional software is running. Naturally, no viruses, as it is a fresh install
    2. RAM test passed with memtest86
    3. SSD is tested and reports healthy status. It is a Samsung M2 SSD MZVLB5512HBJQ. Unfortunately, Samsung "magician" software is not supporting this drive fully and can not run all tests, but all reports are 100% healthy. chkdsk returns no errors
    4. Temperature is not high. Fans working. All temperatures (core, graphics, SSD) at about 50-55 degree. I run hotCPU to stress test the CPU and RAM. Temperature jumps to about 72 degrees, but machine is stable. Then fans kick in and temperature drops. In fact, I was not able to freeze it running stress test.

At the moment, really lost as to what may cause it. Perhaps, some compatibility with W11?

    Any advice is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    Rudolf

    An update.
Replaced SSD with one I had handy. Same problem.
Lifted the CPU heatsink, found thermal paste being dry. Cleaned it off and replaced with fresh, high performance one. Problem is still there.
Also tried to but Linux off USB. Same -- freezes after some time.

    Really lost here

Newer lenovo laptops specially 10th gen onwards has this problem. There is no unique solution. However,on multiple occassions i had success by desoldering mosfets on VCORE/GPU area, putting fresh solder on the pcb pads and some flux and re soldering the same mosfets back. Worked on many occassions but definitely not every time. So you can try. It was not heat at play while soldering/de soldering as they worked for more then 6 months after repairs. The solder quality on these lenovo boards is a big issue.

However, be careful with the amount of heat applied as these boards dont tolerate heat well and surrounding components may just fly away. So better to cover the surroundings with kapeton tape before proceeding.

Thank you for the tip. I can't find my heat tape, so ordered new one today. Will try then. I may post photo of the PCB before, though, just to make sure I am working on right parts.

              Hello,

I am new to this forum and I already apologize for my english! I spent some time trying to find a solution to unblock a lenovo thinkpad x390 Yoga, which probably has, according to a diagram I found online, a NPCE388 Embedded Controller. I don't know much about laptop hardware but whith your help I could maybe manage to do it! In an other thread AAAC wrote:

Xiaomi router freezes at boot after re-capping
              by hinisa
I'm using Xiaomi Router 4A gigabit edition as wireless repeater. It worked fine for 2 years or so, but last week, wireless started to disappear.

When I unplug/replug the power, it was working fine for a day/half a day or so until it freezes again.

After testing with different power supply adapters and concluding it wasn't the issue I finally opened the case and this was the situation:

Anyway I proceed to clean up the mess and replace all caps but unfortunately it made the situation worse. Now router can't even boot, either it freezes during...

              Dell Inspiron 7520 (Intel/AMD) LA-8241P Freezing Issue
              by FShahid
Hi I have Dell 7520 which has i7-3632QM as well as AMD 7730M Discrete Switchable GPU.

This is BACO Switchable meaning the AMD GPU can only "render" and cannot work as alone as it depends on iGPU for output.

Attached is the datasheet for LA-8241P which shares common with Inspiron 5520 and Vostro 3560. Link to Schematics: https://cdn.badcaps-static.com/pdfs/...a856347d78.pdf

The laptop has worked flawlessly for last 9 years, with CPU temps never exceeding 90*C and GPU barely reaching 80*C on gaming/full load.

              Since...

X380 Yoga battery how to jumpstart BMS?
              by Liken
Hi. Trying to recover a battery for X380 Yoga.
Nominal Voltage is 15V but it had only 7V and doesn't charge.
My idea is that probably this battery was without use long time and it has auto discharged. So I disassembled it, it has 4 cells li-poly 3.82V. I charged them individually and now battery has 15V, but bms board, battery controller, doesn't output power.
With old thinkpad batteries you can restart, jumpstar the bms, joining its positive output with positive from cells. But it doesn't seem to work with thinkpad yoga batteries.

Does anybody know how to jumpstart...
